Not knowing when we would be back playing as a group and trying to get the individual sessions done effectively. What do you enjoy the most about being back? Meeting the girls and having the craic at training is what it's all about. How did you stay motivated during the lockdown? Knowing we would be back on the field playing matches at some stage motivated me to keep training hard and to be ready for whenever we would get the call to go back. What are you looking forward to the most? August 2009 Presented by the Clare Roots Society Clare Roots Society The Clare Roots Society, brainchild of Ennisman Larry Brennan, was formed in April 2006 as an amateur family history group. The Society meets once a month in Ennis, and has approx. 50 members. Anyone with an interest in tracing their family tree is welcome to join. Some members are experienced genealogists while others are novices in the field. In addition to local members, we have some 'virtual' members who live overseas, but who follow our activities via email, and dream that they are in Clare. Activities are advertised in local press and in the Ennis Cathedral church bulletin. Under the Chairmanship of Declan Barron and his committee of Fiona de Buitleir, Eric Shaw, Larry Brennan & Paddy Waldron, guest speakers were arranged at past meetings including Paul O’Donnell of the South Galway genealogy group, Peter Beirne of 'The Manse' Local Studies library in Ennis, Jim Herlihy on the RIC, Liam Curran on Irish Soldiers in the British Army, Jonny Dillon of the Folklore Dept., UCD, and Dr. Pat Nugent of the University of Liverpool amongst others. From our own members, speakers have included Dr. Paddy Waldron, Gerry Kennedy, Ger Madden, Declan Barron, Eric Shaw, Robert Cullen, and Larry Brennan. In addition, we have run a number of hands-on computer workshops on genealogical research and the recording of data. The society works in partnership with Clare County Library in order to add to the wonderful fund of genealogy information already available on their website www.clarelibrary.ie Our biggest project to date, completed in 2008 with the assistance of a grant from the Heritage Council of Ireland, involved transcription of the gravestones in the old Drumcliffe Cemetery.

FormB.S.M.2 STATEMENT BY DETECTIVE SERGEANT MORONEY, Detective Branch, Dublin Castle. I was born on June 7th 3i897 at Gurtavrulla, Feakle, Co. Clare. My people belonged to the middle. farming class. Our home was situated at the foot of the Slieve Aughty Mountains in north east Glare. My father and uncles, were active in the Land League. days and my grandfather' was in the Fenian movement. In my boyhood days I often beard stories told around the fireside on Winter nights about the Bodyke evictions and the Fenian movement I joined the Redmond Volunteers in 1913. We drilled once a week. Our training officer was a British army reservist.. When the war broke out in 1914 he was called up for active service and the Volunteer company fell through. There was a blacksmith's forge near our home where on wet days we used to go to meet other boys. The blacksmith, Patrick Minogue,, taught us how to use the sledge for hammering out sets of shoes for horses Ploughshares, etc. My reason for explaining the above shall be seen in my story later. In 1915 I joined the local Irish Volunteer company.
