After captaining the Wales Rugby Union team between 1980-1984 and winning 16 caps, he joined the BBC in Cardiff in 1984 as press and publicity officer for Radio Wales until 1988. He then became rugby correspondent of the Sunday Correspondent until 1990, moving to The Observer in 1991. In that same year he was invited back to BBC Wales to do broadcasting work for BBC Network (London) and continues to make programmes today.
