26 Village Of Liberty Village Of Monticello

Monticello, named after the residence of Thomas Jefferson, is Sullivan Coun- ty’s largest community and the county seat. It was built by Samuel and John Jones to service their interests in natural resources and connect with the New- burgh-Cochecton Turnpike.

Tourism has played an important part in the Village. Downtown was active almost 24 hours a day during the his- toric era of the great hotels. Today the Alder Hotel, Resorts World Catskills, and the Kartrite Indoor Water Park are bringing new economic growth, while the Monticello Raceway continues as destination.

The Sullivan County Government Cen- ter and Sullivan County Court House are located in the Village of Monticello and with other public offices are con- veniently located within our walkable downtown. With affordable housing, period architecture and refurbished streetscape, Monticello is undergoing a resurgence and is a great location for live-work opportunities and first-time homebuyers.

Three elementary, one middle and one high school make up the Monticello Central School District.

For recreation, DeHoyos Park, The Ted Stroebelle and Dillon Park Pool are available.
