Just One Moment in Time Following Ballina’s historic day in Semple Tipperary Senior Hurling Championship Final. It Stadium on Sunday 13th October, we have decided would be Sunday 25th August 2013, before Ballina to look back on other big days in the club’s history won a North Tipperary Intermediate Hurling Final. and how the headlines ran in the Nenagh Guardian 101 years to the day. at the time. We also look at other club events around those days. 1932 In 1932, Ballina played Lahorna De Wets in 1912 the North Junior Final & won by 6-06 to 5-03. It was Nenagh Guardian Aug 17th 1912 Page 3 Ballina’s first Junior Championship win. There was no Intermediate Hurling Championship back in 1932, but Junior now consisted of 1st, 2nd & 3rd teams. 29 teams entered the 1932 Junior Hurling Championship including Boher. It is unclear how far Boher went in the championship. In the semi-final Ballina beat Ballymackey by 4-00 to 3-01. A North selection played in the County Junior Hurling semi-final. Ballina were back in Junior Hurling Championship in 1933.

Yes it happened before, back in 1912 (101 years ago), Ballina were a Senior Hurling Side and reached the North Final. Unfortunately they came up against a Toomevara side that would complete a 4-in-row in 1913. Indeed such was Toome’s dominance in North Tipp at the time that they won the Senior/Junior double in 1910, 1911 & 1912. Senior & Junior were the only two championships played in North Tipp at the time. However the Nenagh Guardian Oct 1st 1932 Page 4 Junior Championship was only open to these clubs with a Senior team. Did the club play Challenge / Tournament games in those early years or was the club in operation at the time? Ballina played in the Senior Hurling Championship from 1910-1914 inclusive. In the other 4 years Ballina lost their first and only game to Roscrea (1910), Toomevara (1911), Moneygall (1913) & Templederry (1914). Social Evening: Dinner Dance Update: Saturday 9th November – A night of Glamour & Glitz

A crowd of over 160 people packed into The Lakeside Hotel on Saturday night last, November 9th for the club's first dinner dance in many years. Billed as both a fund-raiser and a social evening, the event was a huge success in raising both awareness and badly-needed funds for the new field construction.

Once the succulent Turkey and ham dinner had been digested, Chris Rowley - MC for the night introduced Club Chairperson, Sarah Devane.

Sarah gave a wonderful address to the crowd focusing on the importance of having such great support at all the Intermediate matches in 2013. Brendan McKeogh on behalf of all the team management echoed those sentiments and spoke of what an honour it was to be associated with such a committed and talented bunch of players. Team captain David Hickey spoke of his pride at representing the club and the parish.

A raffle which included some great prizes and an auction - which included a signed Intermediate Ballina jersey - was run off at the end of the formal proceedings, before the crowd really let their hair down and danced the night away to local band, Disturbance In The Neighbourhood.

Thanks to everyone for their support and co-operation in a great community night.

Juvenile Club The Juvenile season is finished for a few months at this stage, but it doesn't mean that there aren't any juveniles involved in the match day. The U10s got the ball rolling in Thurles for the County Final, playing a match at half time v Moyne-Templetuohy. The lads also got to carry the club banner and do a guard of honour. For the first round of the Munster Club Championship, the U12s got the vote and they provided a fitting guard of honour and got to play at half time v the home team, Dromin-Athlacca. For the semi-final, the U8s turn had come and there was great excitement in their ranks when they got to play against a top class St Brendan's team in McDonagh Park, Nenagh.

Ballina Under-10’s played in emple Stadium on County Intermediate Hurling Final day. The selectors had a hard job laying out the right game plan also.

Cups on School Visit

During the month of October the various Cups won by the club visited Ballina School. The Cups were accompanied by Club Officials, Intermediate & Minor Management & Panel Members.

In Ballina a special presentation was also made to Len Gaynor who has served as School Coach for a number of years.

All got a great welcome. There will be a visit to Boher School in the coming weeks. Naturally enough most of the visitors were past pupils of either school.

Both Schools have been showing off the Blue & White since returning to School in September.
