New records of nematocerous Diptera from Muránska planina National park (Central Slovakia). Čas. Slez. Muz. Opava (A)., 62: 185-189, 2013.

Abstract: New records of , , , , , and (Diptera) are presented from Muránska planina National Park in the Gemer region in Central Slovakia. The material was obtained mainly in the years 2012– 2013 by means of Malaise traps and by individual collecting by the authors. Three species, Keroplatus tipuloides Bosc, 1792, Mycomya trivittata (Zetterstedt, 1838), and Sciophila geniculata Zetterstedt, 1838 are recorded from Slovakia for the first time.

Introduction

In the previous five contributions to the knowledge of nematocerous Diptera of the Gemer region, eight families were treated: Bolitophilidae, , Ditomyiidae, Keroplatidae, Mycetophilidae, , Anisopodidae, and Dixidae (Ševčík & Kurina 2011a, b, Rudzinski & Ševčík 2012, Ševčík 2011, 2012). During the years 2012 and 2013, several additional species were collected in Muránska planina National Park and these findings are presented in this contribution. The opportunity is also taken to record several species from the families Ptychopteridae and Thaumaleidae.

Material and methods

The list of species below is based on the material collected recently (2012 – 2013) in NP Muránska planina by the authors with Malaise traps (Fig. 1) or by sweep netting, identified by the authors and deposited in JSOC and SMOC unless stated otherwise. In the species list, the collecting method is indicated only for Malaise traps (as MT), otherwise the material was collected by sweeping. For further details about methods and photographs of localities see Ševčík & Kurina (2011a) and Rudzinski & Ševčík (2012). Abbreviations: * = first records for Slovakia; NP = National Park, NPR = National Nature Reserve, m = male, f = female, MT = Malaise trap, JSOC = Jan Ševčík, Ostrava (personal collection), SMOC = Slezské zemské muzeum, Opava, Czech Republic.

*Mycomya (Mycomya s. str.) trivittata (Zetterstedt, 1838) A widespread Holarctic species. This is the first record from Slovakia. Material examined: NP Muránska planina: NPR Čiertova dolina, 5.ix.2012, 1 m.

Mycomya (Mycomyopsis) trilineata (Zetterstedt, 1838) A rather common Palaearctic species, recorded from Slovakia by Väisänen (1984), Martinovský (1995) and Ševčík (2009). Material examined: NP Muránska planina: Nižná Kľaková, 4.ix.2012, 4 m.

Neoempheria bimaculata (von Roser, 1840) A rather rare European species, recorded as new to Slovakia (Poľana Mts.) by Ševčík (2007). Material examined: NP Muránska planina: Muránska Lehota, 5.ix.–25.x.2012, 1 m, MT.

Megophthalmidia crassicornis (Curtis, 1837) A European species, rare in Central Europe, recorded for the first time from Slovakia by Chandler (1995). Material examined: NP Muránska planina: NPR Poľudnica, top plateau, 21.vi.-9.viii.2013, 1 f, MT.

ANISOPODIDAE

Sylvicola fenestralis (Scopoli, 1763) This uncommon species has sometimes been confused with the common S. cinctus (Fabricius, 1787). It was reliably recorded from Slovakia (Poľana Mts.) by Ševčík (2009). Material examined: NP Muránska planina: NPR Čiertova dolina, 5.ix.2012, 1 m.

DIXIDAE

Dixa nebulosa Meigen, 1830 A rather rare European species, recently recorded from Slovakia by Ševčík (2009). Material examined: NP Muránska planina: Tisovec, NPR Suché doly, along brook, 23.vi.2012, 1 f.

PTYCHOPTERIDAE

Ptychoptera lacustris Meigen, 1830 A common Holarctic species, recently recorded from Slovakia (Poľana Mts.) by Starý (2009). Material examined: NP Muránska planina: Muránska Lehota, 12.iv.–24.v.2012, 1 m, MT.

Ptychoptera paludosa Meigen, 1804 A rather rare but widespread European species, recently also recorded from Slovakia (Poľana Mts.) by Starý (2009). Material examined: NP Muránska planina: Muránska Lehota, 12.iv.–24.v.2012, 1 m, MT.

THAUMALEIDAE

Thaumalea bezzii Edwards, 1929 A widespread European species, recorded from several Slovakian localities, including Hrdzavá valley, by Martinovský (1999). Ševčík (2009) recorded this species from Poľana Mts. Surprisingly, this is still the only species of Thaumaleidae known to occur in Muránska planina NP. Material examined: NP Muránska planina: Dolina Dudlavky, along Dudlavka stream, 820m, 6.ix.2008, 1 m; NPR Šarkanica, 520m, 30.iv.2010, 1 m; Hrdzavá dolina, upper part, 4.ix.2012, 4 m.

Conclusions

A total of 4 species of Ditomyiidae, 33 species of Keroplatidae, 307 species of Mycetophilidae, 4 species of Anisopodidae, 3 species of Dixidae, 2 species of Ptychopteridae, and 2 species of Thaumaleidae have been recorded from Muránska planina National Park up to the present. These numbers, however, still cannot be considered final because further collecting trips will undoubtedly bring new additions to the local fauna, as well as to the fauna of the entire Slovak Republic.
