Why Nbc Radio? Abilene Christian University Digital Commons @ ACU Herald of Truth Documents Herald of Truth Records 1976 Make That Second Effort Herald of Truth Follow this and additional works at: https://digitalcommons.acu.edu/hot_docs Recommended Citation Herald of Truth, "Make That Second Effort" (1976). Herald of Truth Documents. 249. https://digitalcommons.acu.edu/hot_docs/249 This Manuscript is brought to you for free and open access by the Herald of Truth Records at Digital Commons @ ACU. It has been accepted for inclusion in Herald of Truth Documents by an authorized administrator of Digital Commons @ ACU. WHY RADIO? Because radio is still one of the most effective and economical means of reaching huge masses of people. • There are more than 250,000,000 household radios in the U. S. today , not including transistor radios and car radios. • In 1968, over 47,000,000 househol d radios (not including transistors and car radios) were purchased in the U.S. • The average U. S. household has 4.3 radios in operating condition. 86% of all cars on the road have radios. • There are more household radios (not including transistors and car radios) in the U.S. than telephones in the whole world. • Radio reaches 75% of all U.S . adults every day. 92% of all men in the U. S. are reached by radio every week. • Typical housewife listens to radio 25 hours per week. DO LISTENERS RESPOND TO HERALDOF TRUTH RADIO PROGRAMS? Decidedly. While we can roughly measure the response by letters which listeners send in to us, we have no way of knowing the thousands upon thousands who listen, but do not write in - yet are affected by the healing word of Christ. Here are a few vital figures: -- - ~~- .- .-' So' far tfils yeafl ve have ma de over 12-,000c on°tfcts as a ,,_ result of listeners writing in for radio sermons. (This does not include Bible correspondence courses.) • Since January of this year, we have mailed out 33,034 transcripts of our radio sermons. Every effort is made by the Herald of Truth ministry to make sure that every letter, every request, every need that comes to our att ention is answered. Congregations nearest those who write in are cont acted by us and urged to follow up by personal conta ct. Thus Herald of Truth becomes an effective part of the local evangelistic efforts of every congregation. WHY NBC RADIO? Because the National Broadcasting Company is the oldest radio network, one that helps give the Herald of Truth ministry important standing in the radio community and among radio listeners. NBC affiliate stations are usually the number one statio ns in their communities in terms of prestige, long-established audience loyal ties, ratings, and outs tan ding program adjacencies. • NBC stations are generally stronger stations (in the 5 - 50,000 watt coverage range) in the more highly populated areas. • NBC radio stations help us to reach more people at less cost in all the major cities and towns across the country. • Very few religious programs are carried by NBC - one is Herald of Truth. • Buffalo Sabres Digital Press
Buffalo Sabres Daily Press Clips December 15, 2017 Filppula’s goal leads Flyers to 5th straight win By AARON BRACY Associated Press Dec. 15, 2017 PHILADELPHIA (AP) — No longer struggling, the suddenly confident Philadelphia Flyers are now able to overcome their own blunders. Valtteri Filppula scored the game-winner with 2 1/2 minutes left in the second period and Travis Sanheim netted his first career goal to help the Flyers win their fifth straight game, 2-1 over the Buffalo Sabres on Thursday night. Brian Elliott rebounded from a costly mistake early in the game to make 19 saves for the Flyers, whose winning streak has come on the heels of a 10-game losing streak. The winning stretch began with a three-game Canadian trip that started with coach Dave Hakstol changing the team’s formation to a more defensive-minded 1-2-2 alignment. Philadelphia (13-11-7) has outscored opponents 19-8 since. Buffalo opened the scoring 1 1/2 minutes into the game thanks to a miscue by Elliott. The Flyers goalie attempted to clear the puck from behind the net, but he passed right to Buffalo’s Zemgus Girgensons. The Buffalo center then passed in front to Ryan O’Reilly, who shot into an empty net for his eighth goal of the season. “A little miscommunication and a bad play on my part,” Elliott said. But the Flyers didn’t get rattled — something that maybe wouldn’t have happened two weeks ago. “You can take a punch better when you have a swagger to your game,” Hakstol said.

BEFORE THE Federal Communications Commission WASHINGTON, D.C. 20554 In the Matter of ) ) Broadcast Localism ) MB Docket No. 04-233 ) To: The Commission COMMENTS OF ENTERCOM BUFFALO LICENSE, LLC Entercom Buffalo License, LLC ("Entercom Buffalo"), by its attorneys, hereby submits comments in response to the Notice ofInquiry in the above-captioned proceeding ("Notice"). Entercom Buffalo is the licensee ofStations WBEN(AM), WGR(AM), WTSS(FM), WWKB(AM) and WWWS(AM), Buffalo, New York; WKSE(FM), Niagara Falls, New York; and WLKK(FM), Wethersfield Township, New York. As discussed below, the Commission's current policies with regard to broadcast localism properly allow licensees the flexibility to address the concerns oftheir communities in inventive and inspiring ways, as demonstrated by the attached summary ofcommunity-oriented programming and activities. There is no reason to impose new regulations on the industry in this regard that potentially would diminish, and not enhance, local community service activities by broadcasters. I. Localism and Deregulation of Radio Content "The concept oflocalism was part and parcel ofbroadcast regulation virtually from its inception." Deregulation ofRadio, 84 FCC 2d 968,994 (1981) ("Radio Deregulation Order"). The Commission has long recognized that, in serving the needs ofits community, a broadcaster should be afforded some latitude in tailoring its programming to the needs ofits listeners. Radio Deregulation Order at 994-98. The Commission acknowledges that it should avoid "regulations 2 that straight-jacket all stations into the same mold." Radio Deregulation Order at 998. More than twenty years ago, therefore, the Commission correctly eliminated its non-entertainment programming guidelines for commercial broadcast radio, requiring only that stations offer programming responsive to the issues ofconcern to the station's listeners, as discerned by the station licensee.
