Winds E 6-12 mph. Second-Round Leaderboard J.B. Holmes USA 62-73—135 (-9) Ryan Moore USA 66-71—137 (-7) Adam Scott Australia 70-68—138 (-6) Bubba Watson USA 71-69—140 (-4) Henrik Stenson Sweden 69-71—140 (-4) J.B. Holmes, 1st J.B. Holmes, who entered the second round with a four-stroke cushion following a 10-under 62, posted a 1-over 73 Friday to see his lead trimmed to two strokes over Ryan Moore and three over Adam Scott. Holmes entered the final hole Friday with a four-stroke lead before an errant drive led to a double bogey. Holmes has been a 36-hole leader/co-leader three previous times in his career, eventually winning the 2008 Waste Management Phoenix Open, finishing T2 at the 2010 AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am and T29 at the 2008 PGA Championship (his only other outright 36-hole lead). Holmes is making his third start at the Cadillac Championship, finishing T40 in 2008 and T18 in 2010. His best performance in 10 World Golf Championships appearances is a T5 – his lone top-10 finish in the series – at the 2011 Cadillac Match Play. R1 at a glance: 7 of 14 fairways, 15 of 18 greens, 25 putts, 2/2 sand saves. R2 at a glance: 9 of 14 fairways, 12 of 18 greens, 30 putts, 1/2 sand saves. Holmes is in search of his fourth PGA TOUR victory: 2006 and 2008 Waste Management Phoenix Open, 2014 Wells Fargo Championship. During Thursday’s opening round, Holmes tied the 18-hole tournament record at Trump National Doral’s Blue Monster (event moved here in 2009). Bubba Watson recorded the other 62, during the second round in 2012. Two additional 62s have been posted in tournament history: Sergio Garcia and Retief Goosen, R4, 2002, Mount Juliet Conrad. Stephen Ames owns the Blue Monster at Trump National Doral course record, a 61 (-11) during the second round of the 2000 Doral Ryder Open. Second-Round Leader Stats The four-way tie for the second-round lead in 2014 marked the only time in 16 Cadillac Championships that there has been a tie for the second-round lead. The second-round leader/co-leader has gone on to win two of 15 stroke-play events this season: Brandt Snedeker (AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am) and Padraig Harrington (The Honda Classic). In 15 previous Cadillac Championships, a second-round leader/co-leader has gone on to win the event 10 times, with Tiger Woods performing the feat five times: 2002 Tiger Woods 130 (-14) 2 over Kelly 2003 Tiger Woods 133 (-7) 5 over Choi, Garcia, Herron, Mediate 2004 Ernie Els 133 (-11) 2 over Hamilton, Jimenez 2006 Tiger Woods 127 (-15) 5 over Cink, Furyk, Howell 2007 Tiger Woods 137 (-7) 2 over Pampling 2008 Geoff Ogilvy 132 (-12) 1 over Woods 2009 Phil Mickelson 131 (-13) 2 over Watney 2010 Ernie Els 134 (-10) 1 over Allenby 2013 Tiger Woods 131 (-13) 2 over McDowell 2014 Patrick Reed 143 (-1) tie with D. Johnson, Kuchar, Mahan Ryan Moore, 2 nd One day following a round that included eight birdies (three more than he had ever posted in a single round at the Cadillac Championship), Ryan Moore posted a 1-under 71 and will enter the weekend trailing Holmes by two shots. R1 at a glance: 9 of 14 fairways, 11 of 18 greens, 23 putts, 1/2 sand saves. R2 at a glance: 9 of 14 fairways, 12 of 18 greens, 29 putts, 1/2 sand saves. Moore’s best finish in three previous starts at the Cadillac Championship is a T22 in 2011. His best finish in 14 previous World Golf Championships starts came at the 2009 HSBC Champions, when he finished third. Moore captured his fourth PGA TOUR victory earlier this season at the CIMB Classic. Adam Scott, 3rd Using a conventional putter, Adam Scott moved to third place following a second-round 68. He is making his 14 th start at the Cadillac Championship, with top-10 finishes in 2006 (T2), 2013 (T3), 2011 (T6) and 2008 (T9). Putting Stats through two rounds for Scott: R1: 27 putts, +2.993/round Strokes Gained: Putting R2: 27 putts, +2.738/round Strokes Gained: Putting Scott, making his 242 nd career TOUR start, is in search of his 12 th official victory. His last TOUR win came at the 2014 Crowne Plaza Invitational at Colonial, the same week he moved into the top spot in the Official World Golf Rankings. In 42 starts in World Golf Championships events, Scott owns one victory (2011 Bridgestone Invitational). Scott’s only other start during the 2014-15 PGA TOUR Season came at the World Golf Championships-HSBC Champions (T12). Additional Player Notes In search of his second-consecutive World Golf Championships victory (2015 HSBC Champions), Bubba Watson carded two eagles (Nos. 8 and 10) Friday en route to a 3-under 69. He now has three eagles on the week (R1/No. 12), two more than anyone else in the field. Watson, who has yet to finish worse than T14 in four starts this season, sits T4 at 4-under 140. 2013 FedExCup champion Henrik Stenson stands T4 in his 28 th World Golf Championships start. He is seeking his second win in the World Golf Championships series, having won the 2007 Cadillac Match Play. Stenson’s best finish in seven previous starts at the Cadillac Championship is T3 in his inaugural appearance in 2005. Dustin Johnson, who won the World Golf Championship-HSBC Champions in 2014 and finished runner-up at the 2011 Cadillac Championship, is again playing well after returning to the TOUR following a six-month hiatus. He missed the cut in his first event of the year (Farmers Insurance Open) and at last week’s Honda Classic, but he posted a T4 at the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am and finished T2 after a three-way playoff at the Northern Trust Open. Following rounds of 68-73, he’ll enter the weekend T6 and six strokes behind J.B. Holmes. Frenchman Alexander Levy, currently ranked No. 55 in the world, carded opening rounds of 68-73 and will enter the weekend T6 in his first Cadillac Championship start. The 24-year-old is a two-time winner on the European Tour: 2014 Volvo China Open and Portugal Masters (shortened to 36 holes due to weather). Sergio Garcia jumped 18 spots on the leaderboard to T9 following a 3-under 69 Friday. Here’s a look at players who are the most strokes under par at the Cadillac Championship since 1999: Tiger Woods (154-under), Sergio Garcia (73-under). Phil Mickelson carded a second-consecutive 2-over 74 and is T41 through two rounds. Mickelson’s opening- round 74 marked his first birdie-free round since Sunday of the 2012 U.S. Open (a streak of 186 rounds). On Friday, Mickelson posted four birdies, but they were countered by two bogeys and two double bogeys. World No. 1 Rory McIlroy followed up an opening-round of 1-over 73 with a second-round 2-under 70 to move to T11. While identical in greens hit (11 of 18) and putts (27) each of the first two rounds, McIlroy improved in sand saves (1 of 3 in R1 vs. 3 of 4 in R2) and fairways hit in regulation (8 of 14 in R2 vs. 10 of 14 in R2). Lee Westwood became the first player to make 50 starts in the World Golf Championships series this week.
