ÅLAND’S XXXI ORGAN FESTIVAL 26.6 - 3.7.2005 The theme for the Organ festival's jubilee year is French organ music from the 1800's and 1900's. There will also be some improvisational organ music. Artists from ten countries will participate. The Festival begins with a magnificent jubilee concert in the Jomala church where Frauenchor Spandau, the orchestra Musica da Camera, Carl Borsuk and André Mielewczyk of Berlin will perform. The next day we will listen to the frequently cele- brated French-Italian organist Silvano Rodi. Maria and Roman Perucki of Poland will give a matinee concert on organ and violin in St. Göran's church in Mariehamn. The same night the duo will perform in Föglö while the internationally renowned organist Jean-Christophe Geiser plays in Mariehamn. For the first time in the Organ festival's 30-year history we'll hear an Icelandic artist; Kári Thormar of Hallgrimskirkja in Reykjavik, play in Saltvik. The internationally celebrated organ improviser Hampus Lindwall of Stockholm will hold a concert on the Grönlund organ in Mariehamn. David Saint of Birmingham performs at an organ matinee in Jomala. Jean-Pierre Leguay, of the Notre Dame cathedral in Paris, will the same day perform in Finström. At the grand finale in Mariehamn, we will listen to the popular European Organ Duo play fourhanded. In Kumlinge and Sottunga, we'll hear the soprano Therese Karlsson of Åland, accompanied by the organist Heikki Seppänen of Turku. Katrin and Henryk Gwardak will participate in the children's concert in the gallery in St. Göran's church in Mariehamn. -

Good passenger figures for Viking Line in July: Second-best volume ever Viking Line’s passenger volume for all routes in July was 951,645 passengers. This volume is even higher than that during the company’s record year, 2018, when 951,005 people sailed on its vessels. *This year, Viking Line is operating seven vessels and has had passengers representing 181 different nationalities. M/S Rosella, which set an all-time record in June, set another all-time record in July, with 146,050 passengers. Mariella and Gabriella, which sail between Helsinki and Stockholm, have also made day cruises this summer to Tallinn. The capacity utilization of both vessels increased significantly thanks to these extra sailings. In July, Viking Cinderella made three sailings from Stockholm to the Swedish island of Gotland during Political Week, the country’s annual gathering of political and business leaders in Visby. Following the successful organisation of the 3rd International Stability Workshop on "Contemporary problems of ship stability and operational safety" in 1997 in Crete, a number of prominent colleagues dealing with maritime R&D in Europe and overseas asked NTUA to consider hosting again a series of conferences and meeting events at the beautiful island of Crete. The response was, of course, positive despite of the anticipation of organisational problems related to the uniqueness of this multi- conference. I am very pleased to see you all here, especially those of you who have come from overseas. We are expecting over the next few days close to 200 colleagues and friends from all over Europe, USA and Japan, a clear indication of high expectations and of interesting days ahead. Supported by 26 May 2020 Press release Leading Danish companies join forces on an ambitious sustainable fuel project Copenhagen Airports, A.P. Moller - Maersk, DSV Panalpina, DFDS, SAS and Ørsted have formed the first partnership of its kind to develop an industrial-scale production facility to produce sustainable fuels for road, maritime and air transport in the Copenhagen area. The partnership brings together the demand and supply side of sustainable fuels with a vision to realise what could become one of the world’s largest electrolyser and sustainable fuel production facilities. The project can spearhead the maturation of sustainable fuels while creating jobs and new value chains to reinforce Denmark’s role as a green energy leader. Copenhagen Airports, A.P. Moller - Maersk, DSV Panalpina, DFDS, SAS and Ørsted have brought together the demand and supply side of sustainable fuels in a unique partnership with the concrete vision to develop a new ground-breaking hydrogen and e-fuel production facility as soon as 2023. When fully scaled-up by 2030, the project could deliver more than 250,000 tonnes of sustainable fuel for busses, trucks, maritime vessels, and airplanes every year. Production would potentially be based on a total electrolyser capacity of 1.3 gigawatts, which would likely make it one of the world’s largest facilities of its kind. The production from the fully scaled facility can reduce annual carbon emissions by 850,000 tonnes. COWI and BCG act as knowledge partners for the project, and the project is supported by the Municipality of Copenhagen in line with Copenhagen’s ambitious policies for decarbonisation. -

På detta sätt skulle en mindre mängd el behöva produceras med fartygets dieselgeneratorer och bunkerkostnaderna skulle fås ner, samt utsläppen minskar. För att få reda på ifall en installation skulle vara möjlig, har mätningar och beräkningar på mängden värme ombord utförts. Kontakt har tagits med en tillverkare av denna typ av system och fartygets klassällskap har konsulterats ifall det finns några hinder för installationen. Resultaten av undersökningarna är att det sannolikt finns goda förutsättningar för en installation, då en tillräcklig mängd värme finns ombord samt plats för själva maskinen. En återbetalningstid på investeringen har också beräknats, baserat på de rådande förutsättningarna, men för att få en riktigt attraktiv investering borde bunkerpriserna öka från nuvarande nivåer. Much of our lifestyle today is only made possible by the existence of shipping as a cheap and reliable mean of transportation across the globe. However, the shipping industry has been challenged in the latest years by, among others, fluctuating fuel prices and stricter environmental regulations. Its contribution to global warming, although today relatively small, has been set under scrutiny: for shipping to be part of a sustainable economy, it will need to reduce its emissions of greenhouse gases. Increasing ship energy efficiency allows reducing fuel consumption and, hence, carbon dioxide emissions. The latest years have witnessed a multipli- cation of the efforts in research and development for increasing ship energy efficiency, ranging from improvements of existing components to the devel- opment of new solutions. This has also contributed to ship energy systems to become more complex. -
