SHAPING FUTURES

BUILDING LEGACIES

Every human being’s worth is in their YOHSIN (thoughtful self-cultivation).

Habib ’s guiding philosophy is encapsulated in the motto “Yohsin”. Yohsin is a verb – it is the action one performs on oneself that produces in one’s person husn, that is, grace; it orients one towards ehsaan, that is, generosity; it makes one ehsan, excellent.

At Habib University, we translate Yohsin as ‘thoughtful self-cultivation’ – and indeed this is the essential quality of both the genuinely educated and of genuine leadership. Yohsin encourages individuals to strive for constant self-cultivation in ve key areas – Beauty, Passion, Respect, Service and Excellence.

“To be an institution of excellence, it takes three important things: world-class faculty, world-class infrastructure, and, of course, exceptional students. To guide our e orts, we have adopted the philosophy of Yohsin.”

– Ra q M. Habib, Chancellor Habib University 4 Front facade of the Habib University campus. Welcome

Habib University – a private, rst-of-its-kind liberal arts and sciences university in – is a much needed addition to the higher education landscape in our region. Providing unmatched facilities, internationally qualied faculty, and a contextualized curriculum, Habib University oers an undergraduate experience comparable to the best of the world.

To take an entire institution from idea to reality is a unique opportunity that requires vision, courage, and innovation on best practices. Habib University has been made possible with the exceptional dedication of the , along with a growing number of private philanthropists who have come on board to make high quality, contextually-relevant higher education accessible to Pakistan’s youth.

At the same time, it is an invitation for those corporations and individuals who want to be part of shaping an institution of excellence to step forward, make a commitment and leave a lasting legacy for future generations.

5 Habib University: A Space for oughtful Self-Cultivation

In order to provide an eective learning environment for a 21st century education, the Habib University campus was conceived to actively facilitate teaching and learning activities. roughout the design phase, we sought advice from our institutional partners – Texas A&M University and Carnegie Mellon University – on how best to create physical spaces that cater to the needs of modern pedagogy. Both universities are internationally-renowned institutions of higher education which recently set up new campuses in Qatar. Our technical partners and consultants included Aaron Cohen Associates Limited, Herman Miller, Learning Spaces Collaboratory (LSC) and Research Facilities Design (RFD). ey all have extensive experience in designing environments for learning, research, and holistic student development in leading global universities.

ose collaborations are today visible in the features of our campus. Students, faculty and visitors have noted that Habib University oers an environment like no other in Pakistan. Scores of students, journalists, policy makers, and scholars have benetted from public lectures delivered by reputed global thinkers held at marquee spaces of the University. Science students are delighted to nd laboratories equipped with cutting-edge technologies where they can actively learn; and aspiring lmmakers are excited by the rst-of-its-kind, comprehensive lm study studio at a Pakistani university.

With Habib University, Pakistani students and scholars now have access to an educational institution on par with international best practices, especially in terms of resourcefulness – a most visible achievement of all those who have backed the Habib University project.
