4 CHRYSOMELA no. 37, April 1999 The P.I.M.E. Chrysomelidae An Update on the in the Museum Field Museum of Natural History Rev. Carlo Brivio, Monza Collection

Charlie & Suzy Staines, Edgewater

We recently spent a week working on the Chrysomelidae collection at the Field Museum of Natural History in Chicago. The chrysomelid holdings total 254 drawers. The majority of the holdings are Nearctic, but Neotropical and Palearctic regions are well represented.

Subfamily No. drawers Alticinae 46 Aulacoscelinae 1 Bruchinae 19 Cassidinae 15 Rev. Brivio shows us some of non-chrysomelid beetles in Chlamisinae 2 the P.I.M.E. collection Chrysomelinae 26 Clytrinae 12 The P.I.M.E. (Museuo Entomologico del Pontifico Instituto Criocerinae 5 Missioni Estere) entomological collections now contain about Cryptocephalinae 29 150,000 specimens, 95% of which are Coleoptera. The collection has increased three times in size since the 1994 Donaciinae 4 report on the museums holdings published in CHRYSOMELA Eumolpinae 36 (no. 28). Briefly, the status of identified material is: Galerucinae 35 Chrysomelidae—most of the Italian species, almost all of the Cassidinae (World), and other smaller subfamily holdings. Hispinae 18 Carabidae—most of the Italian species, many Oriental and Lamprosomatinae 1 USSR species, some species from China (including a new species, Stomis brivioi Sciaky). Megascelinae 1 Cerambycidae—all Italian and Oriental, as well as much Megalopodinae 2 of the material from South America. Orsodacninae 1 Aphodiinae—many of the specimens in this group are identified. Synetinae 1 Histeridae—mostly identified. Curculionidae—the Italian species are identified and only Two major collections are part of the Field Museum a few of the specimens from the Philippines. holdings; the N. M.
