SANiBEL AND CAPTIVA, FLORIDA Risky business Roofer buys home on vanishing beach By Sara Hendricks Special to the Island Reporter The recent purchase of land on seriously eroded beach south of Blind Pass has sparked some questions about whether planned sand placement in the area will allow the buyer to renovate the existing house. Sanibel roofer David Lottes recently bought two parcels of land known as the Cilli property, most notable for the stilt house which sits out in the Gulf of Mexico. The land encompasses a total of 260 feet of beachfront. This month the engineer for the Captiva Erosion Prevention District will begin a sand search, survey of the beach and a preliminary design for sand placement on both sides of Blind Pass Bridge, including the beach that fronts the Cilli property.
