Forest Killarney FC | 2017 Annual Report 7 Secretary’s Report

The 2017 season was an industrious and hectic one for FKFC. The FKFC Constitution was amended at the 2016 Annual General Meeting. The new version of the constitution was updated to include changes that were adopted at the Extraordinary Meeting held on 9th September 2015. In accordance with the Incorporated Associations act of 2009 there are constitutional changes that have been made to bring this constitution into line with the revised regulations. These changes were significant and included changes to: yy Laws of the game yy Titles of Office Bearers yy Qualification as Executive Committee Office Bearers yy Definition of Committee roles The Incorporated Registration of Forest Killarney Football Club was identified as having two different trading names. The Club’s Australian Business Number (ABN) registered with Australian Securities Commission (ASIC) was registered with the name: Forest Killarney Soccer Club in July 2000 and updated to retain this name in June 2006. However in November 2009, the Club’s registered name with Office of Fair Trading, New South Wales was: Forest Killarney Football Club Incorporated. The change of registration to align both trading names to FOREST KILLARNEY FOOTBALL CLUB was effected 14 June 2017. The diversified commercial activities continued to be operated by FKFC with its third Forest Summer Soccer (small sided) competitions as well as Forest School Holiday Football camps and Forest Development Squads taking to the field. These endeavours are designed to allow participation by the local football community in organised events at the world class Melwood facilities at affordable value for money rates. The funds from such ventures are channelled directly back to the membership in purchasing improved training equipment and to fund improvements to the clubhouse and its facilities. The vision is for FKFC to develop its own brand value in organising and running these events which will provide long term enjoyment and all year round participation in football and football related activities for the local community and families. The Club’s e-media continued to be widely used for communications to members and the local community. The Website and Official Facebook site is dedicated to players and FKFC teams and we reached 1,245 “Likes” with an annual reach of 488,000 hits on Facebook. We added an Instagram account to add to the interactive facilities for our playing and associate members. Again this time of year as we approach the Annual General Meeting set for 21 November 2017, I would like to appeal to the wider community within the player / families associated with FKFC to get involved in helping with the many duties that are essential to have a well-functioning club. In closing, I echo previous year’s sentiments and wish to thank my fellow committee and all members for their encouragement enthusiasm and dedication to the club.

8 Forest Killarney FC | 2017 Annual Report Treasurer’s Report

2016-17 was my first year as Club Treasurer. It is a voluntary role that takes many more hours that I was initially led to believe but it has been a truly rewarding experience. I would firstly like to thank Ruth Salminen for all the help and support in ensuring a very smooth and painless transition. Ruth is a true FKFC supporter and has devoted many hours and days behind the scenes in the support of the club and its membership. Building on from previous years; our club continues to grow from strength to strength both on and off the field. The club financial arrangements are in a very healthy position and well placed to continue to upgrade our facilities and to re-invest in our membership and player development. We continue to focus on our long-term objective to support the funding of an upgraded clubhouse and Killarney playing fields to compliment our fantastic facilities at Melwood Some key highlights to note - yy ANZ Bank continues as the primary bank for FKFC Financial affairs yy MW Lomax audited and signed off the Financial Year-end accounts as at August 2017 yy FKFC reported total income at $662,420 with a net operating profit of $93,149 yy Player registration $197,747 yy Playing expenses $133,970 yy Bank and Term Deposit balances as at FYE total $403,210 Bank Dual signatories elected and agreed: Club President, Club Vice President, Club Treasurer and Club Secretary In preparation for the 2017 winter season, we worked in partnership with our primary gear sponsor Rennaisance Sports, a local business in Mona Vale to replace our Club Playing Kit. This is typically a once in a 4-year event. Building on this partnership we are now the flagship club for Rennaisance Sports club kit design. Our playing members now proudly wear a new stylish playing kit on match days. Renaissance Sports donated significant funding as part of the deal to ensure that all players were also supplied with new FKFC training tops. In addition to the new playing gear investment, there were a few notable expenses throughout the year; a new Coffee Machine and Slushie Makers were welcome additions to our Canteen and Bar offerings. New Goals and training gear were added to our coaching and development supplies. Our growing Commercial Ventures have been run very successfully with positive feedback received on our School Holiday Camps, Development Squads, Club Merchandising & Summer Soccer. We continue to generate income and choose to invest wisely on behalf of the club membership. I am personally proud to see some of our younger members now taking part in the running and administration of the club activities. Due to the increasing events and activities across the calendar year, we now have a growing team of young and enthusiastic Referees, Baristas, Canteen, Bar and Ground Setup support. Scott Twose in particular and the wider committee members have done an amazing job of attracting new and increased sponsorship income The financial books have closed midway through the Summer Comp 2017 registrations, and bottom line figure is showing a healthy profit being made. My goal has been to ensure that the increasing income and profits continue to be invested wisely on behalf of current and future members.

Following on from record numbers on the playing front in 2016 the playing numbers increased even further in 2017 and we ended up with over 1,200 players for the first time in the club’s history. The player numbers were split as follows, 325 adult players, 410 players between 11 and 17 years of age and 470 players between 5 and 10 years of age. Included in the registered numbers were 289 players who hadn’t been club members in 2016. 132 were players under the age of 10, 76 were between the age of 10 and 17 years old and 81 were adult players. There were also 186 coaches and managers registered. I wish to thank all the age co-ordinators and managers who provided support during the registration period especially during the peak periods leading up to the seas start. Continuing on from the 2016 Forest Summer Football Competition in 2016 the 2017 version has had record numbers. There has been an increase in numbers of over 40% to 1,350 players and 176 teams this year with the most significant jump being in the number of female players playing. Hopefully the enjoyment people are getting from the small sided games on Monday and Friday evenings will showcase Forest Killarney Football Club at it’s best and will lead to a further uptick in membership for the 2018 football winter competition.

Forest Killarney FC | 2017 Annual Report 49 Sub-Junior Report

2017 has been a good year for the U9-11 age groups. FKFC had 10 teams, up from 8 teams from 2016. U10 had 8 teams, up from 5 teams from 2016 and U11 4 teams. This was roughly 22% increase in player numbers across the three age groups combined compared to the 2016 season. U9 teams in 2017 are particular competitive players and keen to do well in the league. These was maybe due to the large base of devoted parents groups. Again, same situation persist this season as MWFA did have to make a greater amount of adjustments to the U9 divisions due to inconsistencies in grading between clubs, and some of our teams faced unbalanced levels of opposition in their initial rounds, or even in later rounds. As a result of the adjustments, one of our two red U9 Div1 team was moved down to blue which was not the right level for the team. The new Melwood pitches continued this season to make a good impression among the community. Parents, Managers and Coaches displayed a good level of involvement, U9 Scouts and a strong culture in these age groups helped to make participation in a number of events possible, including: Mongo Gala Days for U9, U10 & U11; Kanga Cup for U9; and the Sydney International Cup for U9. Kanga Cup particularly had drew attention among U9 parents group. There were feedback that if possible, Kanga opportunities not only available to Div1 team. Feedback from parents, coaches and players is that participation in these gala days and tournaments is a great experience for the kids and a highlight of the season. The frequency of games and exposure to teams outside of MWFA is great for development — and the team bonding, and opportunity for players from different teams in the club to play together helps build stronger friendships and strengthen the ties across an age group. Holiday Program also received good feedback from U9 to U11 age groups. Special thank you to U9 Cavaliers’ Manager Lesa Paul and U9 Bandits’ Manager Linda Dowbiggin who had managed impossible that had organised their teams Canteen and BBQ duties on the school holiday weekend and in almost last minute notice. Thank you again Lesa and Linda. We look forward to seeing players coming back form another great season in 2018! U9 Kanga Cup team

Wendy Mao U9-U11 Age Group Manager

50 Forest Killarney FC | 2017 Annual Report Junior Report

In the 2017 season player numbers remained strong with 3 or 4 teams in all age groups from U12-U18, with the exception of U15 where we did not field a team this season. This has been highlighted as an age group to actively recruit in for 2018. As a club, there weresome great performances across the season, with four Junior teams representing FKFC in this year’s grand finals – the second year in a row that this many teams have attained that achievement. It is a great testiment to the great work of the club’s coaches, U12/4 – Grand Final winners and the efforts of the players, that all four of these teams were successful on the day: yy U12/4 – Grand Final winners yy U12/1A – League and Grand Final winners yy U13/2 – Grand Final joint winners yy U14/1A – League and Grand Final winners

Kanga Cup 2017 The club continued it’s supprt for teams to participate in this highly respected competition, giving players the chance to travel to and compete against quality opposition from around Australia and abroad. FKFC U9, U12 and U13 teams represented the club. It was a great week for team bonding and player U12/1A – League, Grand Final and Champion of Champion winners development, with games every day.

State Cup 2017 A number of FKFC teams represented the club in this year’s State Cup competition – U12, U13, U14, U16 and U18. Most of those teams made it to the third round of competition, where as a club we hit a patch of bad luck and all teams exited the tournament.

Champion of Champions 2017 FKFC was represented by the U12 and U14 teams in this prestigious tournament. Both teams progressed through the rounds to their finals.

George Manticos’ U12s played Kemps Creek SC in the U13/2 – joint Grand Final winners final, which was the team that had knocked them out of the State Cup earlier in the season. This encouter sawa different result with FKFC convincing 3-1 winners courtesy of a hat trick by Henri Tremauville. Danny Panetta’s U14s were defending champions, having won the 2016 edition of the tournament. They faced familiar opposition in Auburn Distrct, and were 2-0 winners in a heated contest. I believe this is the first time that two age groups have been Champion of Champions winners for Forest Killarney FC — a major acheivement for the club. All in all, it has been an eventful and successful season on and off the field. A big thanks to all players, coaches, U14/1A – League, Grand Final and Champion of Champion winners managers and parents who have made it possible. Jeff Duncan VP – Junors

Forest Killarney FC | 2017 Annual Report 51 Junior Girls Report

This winter season FKFC were lucky enough to have 9 girls teams; W9 Opals (all new to the club), W10 Emeralds, W10 Rubies, W11 Diamonds, W12-1, W13-2, W14-1, W16-2 and W18-2. Many of the players were returning players but there were lots of new players to the club. Welcome! I must acknowledge the fantastic group of coaches and managers for all the junior girls’ teams, their commitment to the teams and their patience putting up with my emails was much appreciated. During the season a couple of the junior teams walked the Women’s Premier League out on to Melwood Oval, this was enjoyed by both teams. Melwood also hosted the U9 Gala day which was an extremely busy day, but very positive. The club received great feedback from visiting clubs and MWFA. U9 Girls Gala Day at Melwood The W13-2 team, coached by Craig Nicol and managed by Kate Mercer, finished the season with a narrow loss in their semi-final to Avalon who later went on to win the grand finale. These girls performed the best out of all the junior girls (W12 – W18) teams finishing 3rd on the table with 10 wins, 3 draws and 4 losses, and received the Club Champions Trophy from FKFC. Summer soccer is under way and is has a record number of girls and women’s teams; 45 teams in all. This is broken up U10/11-10 teams, U12/13-11 teams, U14/15-7 teams, U16/17/18-4 teams and O35-11 teams. Hopefully these girls enjoy their new soccer experience and register for the winter season as well.

52 Forest Killarney FC | 2017 Annual Report Women’s Report

For the first time in a number of seasons, Forest Killarney FC fielded a Women’s Premier League team as well as WA1, doubling the number of our senioer women’s teams alongside the WAL2 and WO35/1 teams. The WPLs finished 5th in the league, a good result for a new team in the comp. The WAL1s competed in the State Cup, making it to the third round of the competition. They also finished 4th in the league, and progressed through the semis to make the grand final. Unfortunately, they met a very strong Beacon Hill team and lost the final 5-3. A great season for a new Forest team. WAL1 The WAL2s also finished 4th to make the playoffs, but unfortunately lost their semi to eventual final winers Curl Curl. The WO35/1s got off to a slow start at the beginning of the season, but found their stride mid-season and climbed the table to make the playoffs. They beat perenial powerhouses Wakehurst in the semis to reach their second grand final in successive years. This time they went a step further and won their final 3-1 over Manly Vale A. All in all, a very successful season for women’s football at FKFC.

Forest Killarney FC | 2017 Annual Report 53 AL Report

The 2017 AL season was certainly one to remember as it never really started particularly smoothly and would end in a similar fashion. MWFA decided this year to only have team squads in AL1’s and AL2’s and have a single team compete in the AL3’s. From this decision unfortunately the AL3’s decided that as they wanted to remain a squad they would move their whole squad and join BTH as there AL2’s. This move to BTH was to say the least bitterly disappointing as it was done at the 11th hour leaving us very little time to try and muster a team to play in this division. Sadly, we never had a team to enter into AL3’s this year but will hopefully fulfil that position in 2018. As for the other divisions we had enough players to field teams in division 4, division 6 and division 8. Post season, I have reached out to all the relevant managers/coaches for some feedback on how they felt their season had went. To date I have had one reply from Stephen Calacouras from the AL6’s who was disappointed with their season due to them being put in the wrong division. They had 2-wins, last place finish and multiple forfeits and this is a team that won the 2016 season. Stephen puts this down to the restructure made by MWFA and being placed in the wrong division. Thankfully this hasn’t put them off and they will return to play next year albeit most will move to o35’s. Towards the end of the season the club made the decision that it would not invite two of our coaches to return for the 2018 season as it was becoming more apparent to the relevant coaching staff that Michael Potter (AL2’s) and Morris Springfield (AL1’s reserves) never had the same vision and philosophy of what the club was trying to instil in its team. We wish both these coaches all the best in their future endeavours. Stats for 2017- AL1’s – Finished 7th AL1 Reserves – Finished 2nd AL2’s – 2nd AL2 Reserves – 6th AL4’s- 9th AL6’s – Last place AL8’s – 6th

54 Forest Killarney FC | 2017 Annual Report O35 & O45 Report

2017 was another good season for the Men’s Over 35/45 Age Group with FKFC fielding 6 teams. We were represented in Over 35’s with one team in each of divisions 4 and 5, and two in Division 7, and in Over 45’s with one team in each of divisions 1 and 3. As usual all of the teams had a fun and competitive season with the grading seeming to be particularly appropriate this year. The 35/4 team ended up as Major Premiers while 4 of the other 5 teams finished in the top 4 and participated in their respective semi-finals (namely the 35/5, 35/7A, 45/1 and 45/3 teams). In what was a tough weekend of games, unfortunately all 5 teams lost their semi-final, meaning that we had no teams participating in the ensuing grand final games. This was very unusual as normally FKFC is well represented at Cromer Park on grand final today, but this year it wasn’t to be. Better luck next year! All teams played a good number of games on the synthetic surface at Melwood Oval throughout the season, some even under lights on a weekday night which makes for a great atmosphere and playing experience. Everyone enjoys playing on the new surface as it’s much better for our aging knees and ankles, and contributes to an overall higher standard of play. Special thanks to the teams who frequented the clubhouse bar each week, supporting the club and watching some great games at the same time. It’s always a convivial atmosphere with the O35/45 teams reliving their recent games and sharing stories and experiences. A big thanks as usual to the Managers and Coaches that helped to get the teams organised and then kept things running smoothly throughout the season. Thanks also to all the Committee with special mention to John for getting the teams registered, Rusty for getting them kitted out, and Scott and Duncan for their usual close engagement with this age group. Hope to see everyone back again wearing the mighty green FKFC shirts in 2018.

Nick Longdon Over 35/45 Coordinator

Forest Killarney FC | 2017 Annual Report 55 Technical Director’s Report

On behalf of the committee, and to all those coaches, managers and parents that made the decision to be involved in whatever capacity. The club thanks you! Hopefully its been a worthwhile, fun and gratifying experience in watching your respective teams improve as cohesive units and observing the individual team members own skills improve by the end of the season. Season 2017 Key highlights - yy Establishment of a grading committee/team yy Major Pre-season trials vs Maitland FC (away), Connells Point (Home) and Broadmeadow Magic (Home), Chatswood Rangers (Home), Curl Curl FC (Home) yy Junior Boys and Girls Development Programs - 10 week programs yy Inaugural Season of FKFC Women’s Premier League side - Coached by Glenn Woods yy School Holiday Camps - Coordinated successfully by Lucy Russell, Bill Keir and Danny Panetta This season with the endorsement of the committee the club was able to offer Junior members a 10 week Junior Boys and Girls Development program based on the SAP and FFA curriculum -This program was run by Josh Ward and Heidi Van Weeren A 10 week Goalkeeper Skills program was also offered to Junior Goalkeepers - The Program was run by Lachie Kerr & Jay Alcock. FFA Club Coach Coordinator Program being implemented by incoming Technical Director Bill Keir with the guidance of Chris Adams of MWFA The senior coaching team this year delivered on a number of important initiatives aimed at improving support and translating that into the development of the skills and enjoyment of our players ie - Junior and Senior success on the field can never be achieved if you do not have coaches with knowledge of the game and above all knowledge in knowing how to deliver worthwhile age appropriate training sessions aimed at improving player performance and team Goal keeper training playing structure. This is why in season 2017 FKFC with the help of MWFA’s Chris Adams we launched an in house coaching assistance/ education/mentoring program - The Club Coach Coordinator Program (CCC) with the assistance of MWFA . A pilot session was run in August with the view to expanding the program throughout all the coaching ranks in season 2018 with particular focus on the junior and sub junior age groups. Champion of Champions success for our Under 12/1 - Coached by George Manticos and the Under 14/1’s - Coached by Danny Panetta Advanced Coaching Education Forest had two registered participants in this year’ advanced FFA/AFC - C licence course in October 2017 - Bill Keir and Richard Evans. By the end of season 2017 Forest will have a total of 6 coaches with advanced coaching qualifications - FFA/AFC Advanced C licence. And finally, I would like to personally thank our incoming Technical Director - Bill Keir for all the hard work, support and also acting as a sounding board for advice on all aspects of coaching as well as the development of our club’s coaching philosophy. A big thanks to Junior Coach Danny Panetta for all his hard work in assisting with the holiday camps, assisting with the CCC pilot session and guiding the under 14/1’s to back to back champions of champions success and finally our senior AL1’s coach - Michael Vescio for adopting a holistic approach to coaching and taking a keen interest in the development of our junior ranks and well as embracing the FKFC coaching philosophy.
