Railway accident investigation report Railway operator: Central Japan Railway Company Accident type: Level crossing accident Date and time: About 13:13, April 12, 2014 Location: Yuzawa level crossing, class four level crossing without automatic barrier machine nor road warning device, located at around 133,418m from the origin in Toyohashi station between Ina-Kamisato station and Moto-Zenkoji station, single track, Iida Line, Iida City, Nagano Prefecture. SUMMARY The train collided with a farming tractor passing the class four level crossing. The tractor driver died by the accident. PROBABLE CAUSES It is considered probable that the accident had occurred by the collision of the train and the tractor entered into and could not pass across the Yuzawa level crossing, where tractors are prohibited to enter. It is considered somewhat likely that the tractor driver moved his tractor into the level crossing, without noticing that the train was approaching to the level crossing, because it might be effected that the tractor driver had concentrated his attention to driving the tractor while passing the level crossing, as the width of the level crossing road is narrow and he usually did not drive the tractor in the level crossing. It is also considered somewhat likely that the reason because the tractor driver had moved his tractor into the level crossing where tractors are prohibited to enter, is that he usually passed the level crossing with the cart to transport farm products. .

Sep. 13, 2013 Central Japan Railway Company The Effect of Bomb Disposal at the Hamamatsu Workshop Site on Train Service An unexploded bomb was discovered at the site of our Hamamatsu Workshop. Protective measures against the bomb have already been taken by the Japan Ground Self-Defense Force and there is no risk of explosion, but in accordance with the instructions from Hamamatsu City and relevant agencies, the bomb will be transferred to the Enshu-nada coast and disposed of by the Japan Ground Self-Defense Force on November 10, 2013 (Sunday). This is to notify our passengers of the effects that the transportation of the bomb is likely to have on our train service. Possible effects on train service The bomb will be transported starting at 8:30 on November 10, 2013 (Sunday), and during this time, trains will be unable to enter the restricted zone set up by Hamamatsu City and relevant agencies. Therefore, services in certain sections of the Tokaido Shinkansen and the Tokaido Line will temporarily be suspended or cancelled. (1)Tokaido Shinkansen ・ Services between Hamamatsu Station and Toyohashi Station will be suspended while the restriction zone is in place. Therefore, there will be delays in trains passing through this section. ・ No trains will be cancelled. ・ Extra trains will be operated before service is suspended. ・ If the work progresses as scheduled, service is expected to return to the normal schedule at around 12:00. (2)Tokaido Line ・ While the restriction zone is in place, Westbound trains will operate to Hamamatsu Station and Eastbound trains will operate to Maisaka Station.

(These are the same dimensions required for manual and other types of wheelchairs.) Mobility scooter users can board conventional line carriages that are both vestibule-free and step-free. *Limited express train carriages and some rapid or local train carriages that have vestibules or steps cannot accommodate mobility scooters.
