#UNLEASHED PSAC CHAMPIONSHIP • AT SLIPPERY ROCK @GOBUHUSKIES • #UNLEASHED BLOOMSBURG FOOTBALL GAME NOTES FROM THE ARCHIVES By Bloomsburg University Archivist Bob Dunkelberger

Bloomsburg’s defense gave up only nine yards rushing to Lock Haven on Saturday, the fewest since holding Mansfield to minus 16 yards in 1996.

The Husky defense has surrendered just 126 points in its first ten games, tying the 2001 team for the third best mark in modern program history. The only better seasons were 107 in 1997 and 109 in 1985. The other years from more than a century ago were 69 in 1901, 95 in 1902 and 108 in 1911.

The Bloomsburg defense has held six straight opponents to 13 or fewer points, tying the best streak since seven in a row from 1951- 1952. The school record is 12 in 1947-1948. There were nine such streaks of seven or more games between 1902 and 1952.

The Huskies have scored at least 30 points in eight consecutive games, tying the school record set from 2011-2012 and tied in 2013.

Bloomsburg has won 11 consecutive regular season games on the road, the last 10 under Paul Darragh. This is one shy of the school record of 12 set between 2007 and 2009.

The Huskies have won their first 10 games for only the third time in program history. In 1985 they won the first 12 and in 2005 their first 11.

Paul Darragh has reached 20 victories as head coach faster than anyone else in program history, 22 games, bettering Robert Redman’s previous school record of 23. Rounding out the top five all-time are (27), Jack Yohe (28), and Danny Hale (31).

The upcoming game with Slippery Rock is the 15th in the series between the two schools, dating back to the first meeting in 1934, an 18-12 Husky victory. Bloomsburg’s record in the previous 14 games is 11-3, with a mark of 6-1 at home and 5-2 on the road. The Huskies have won 10 consecutive games in the series since the last loss, 18-7 at Slippery Rock in 1983, winning five straight on the road since that contest.

Overall he will be starting his 18th season with the Huskies in 2014. During the 2013 season Darragh led the Huskies to a 10-2 record, a PSAC championship and a berth in the NCAA playoffs as part of the strongest season for any first-year head coach in school history. Following the season he was honored as PSAC Eastern Division Coach of the Year. Under Darragh’s leadership, the Huskies had four All-Americans including Harlon Hill Award- winning running back Franklyn Quiteh who was honored as the top player in Division II. Blooms- burg also had national finalists for the Cliff Harris Award (top small school defensive player, Larry Webster), Gene Upshaw Award (lineman of the year, Brian Clarke) and Fred Mitchell Award (top place-kicker, Danny Fisher). Following the season, defensive end Larry Webster became the sixth player in Bloomsburg history to be selected in the NFL Draft as he was picked in the fourth round by the Detroit Lions. Darragh previously served as the Huskies’ defensive coordinator for 16 years under legendary head coach Danny Hale. Under Darragh’s leadership the Huskies’ defense has ranked in the top-half The Darragh File of the PSAC in total defense seven of the past 11 seasons, including back-to-back second place finishes in 2000 and 2001 and a second place in 2009.
