Walking holidays in Europe Walking holiday at Lake Garda www.expressionsholidays.co.uk 01392 441250 WALKING HOLIDAYS IN EUROPE Walking holiday at Lake Garda 7 NIGHTS / 8 DAYS HIGHLIGHTS • 5 self-guided walking itineraries • Malcesine • Monte Baldo • Ponale Trail • Busatta-Tempesta Panorama Trail • Garda • Limone sul Garda • Valle del Singó • Sirmione Lake Garda This seven-night self-guided walking holiday invites you to explore the area around Lake Garda from the charming village of Malcesine. Italy’s largest lake is blessed with a temperate climate and diverse landscape. The northern end of the lake, where many of your walking itineraries are based, is a narrow blade which pierces the jagged mountains that once formed the border between Italy and Austria. To the south the lake widens, and the character becomes almost Mediterranean with waterfront cafés, picturesque harbours and small pebbled beaches. Around Lake Garda you will fi nd dense forests of fi rs and pines, lines of twisted olive trees and fragrant lemon groves. This walking holiday takes you on historic lakefront trails, up iron staircases which cling to the rockface above the lake, along dramatic mountain rides and into luscious river valleys. Rest days are spent at leisure, exploring the cultural and historic highlights of Lake Garda, using the ferry to visit the southern reaches of the lake. Return to your charming hotel each day to relax by the pool before enjoying a delicious dinner at the hotel’s restaurant. This holiday is suitable for travel from May to October with the summer months being preferable for better weather and regular public transport options around the lake.

  • The Rhaeto-Romance Languages
Romance Linguistics Editorial Statement Routledge publish the Romance Linguistics series under the editorship of Martin Harris (University of Essex) and Nigel Vincent (University of Manchester). Romance Philogy and General Linguistics have followed sometimes converging sometimes diverging paths over the last century and a half. With the present series we wish to recognise and promote the mutual interaction of the two disciplines. The focus is deliberately wide, seeking to encompass not only work in the phonetics, phonology, morphology, syntax, and lexis of the Romance languages, but also studies in the history of Romance linguistics and linguistic thought in the Romance cultural area. Some of the volumes will be devoted to particular aspects of individual languages, some will be comparative in nature; some will adopt a synchronic and some a diachronic slant; some will concentrate on linguistic structures, and some will investigate the sociocultural dimensions of language and language use in the Romance-speaking territories. Yet all will endorse the view that a General Linguistics that ignores the always rich and often unique data of Romance is as impoverished as a Romance Philogy that turns its back on the insights of linguistics theory. Other books in the Romance Linguistics series include: Structures and Transformations Christopher J. Pountain Studies in the Romance Verb eds Nigel Vincent and Martin Harris Weakening Processes in the History of Spanish Consonants Raymond Harris-N orthall Spanish Word Formation M.F. THE TERRITORY IN HISTORY Ferrara di Monte Baldo is a small town situated in a verdant hollow suspended between the Adige valley to the east and the peaks of Monte Baldo to the west. It offers visitors a pleasant, relaxing stay in an alpine environment of great scenic and naturalistic interest. Some of the most fascinating itineraries of Monte Baldo pass through Ferrara, from that by car which climbs to the Botanical Garden of Novezzina and continues through vast panoramas up to the Bocca di Navene (1,430 m with a view of the lake), to those for hiking up to Punta Telegrafo (2,220 m), with its immense 360-degree panorama, or up to Cima Valdritta (2,180 m). The name of Ferrara derives from iron deposits the Romans exploited in the valley by making slaves work for them. In the 6th century the territory of the Baldo passed under the Longobard dominion and in the following century that of the Franks. In 1193 it became a municipality with headquarters in Saugolo, then in Campedello and then to where it is currently located.

In detail, the World Heritage Committee having examined Documents WHC-07/31. As outlined in the document licensed by the Word Heritage Committee at the end of the 29th session held in Durban, South Africa, in July 2005, Italy has proposed the Dolomites as one of the sites deserving consideration for a possible future nomination as a site of outstanding universal value. The request was included in annex 1 of the Tentative List dated march 31st 2005, whereas the denomination ‘Dolomites’ is defined in annex 2 “Tentative List Sub- mission in accordance with decision 27 Com 8a” and annex 3 (Properties ac- cepted as meeting the requirements for Tentative List), within the scope of the broader denomination ‘Alps’, which also includes a) Western Alps and c) Eastern Alps, under the category ‘Natural Sites’.
