This top secret bunker is located 18 floors beneath Moscow in the Taganskaya area, and is so well disguised behind the walls of the regular house that you would never find it from outside among other same looking buildings. In fact nobody lives there and all windows, curtains and flowers are just for masking. It was built in 1951 to withstand bombings and insure that normal telecommuni- cation and defence was managed in case of nuclear attack..

The bunker consists of a maze of tunnels, in all over 7000 square meters. If you try to find the way on your own - you will Immediately get lost. In one of the rooms you will see a short film about Cold War Times and the origins of the bunker. Moving further you will find the room with communications equipment used during the 1950’s. The bunker housed 2500 workers who would work in seven day shifts below ground. The bunker supplied everything they needed, including sleeping quarters, a canteen and bathing facilities. There was also a stockpile of food in the event of a nuclear strike.

The walk through the tunnels is simply breath-taking and you can get lost in your imagination of what it must have been like 50 years ago! For those interested in Soviet history and the Cold War, this is a must see!
