These are seen in aspects of Mexican and Central American celebrations. This book explores those celebrations through activities in art, folk and classical music, dances and fiestas. The book is organized into two sections to provide maximum flexibility of usage and encourage the integration of these resourcematerials intc the curriculum. Section 1: "Fiestas," contains a yearly plan of fiesta celebration ideas. Each fiesta is explored through "Background Information," "Enrichment Activities," and "Glcbal Awareness" questions. Section 2: "Resource Bank," includes instructions for many of the acti. ities introduced in the first section. He loved Mexico and Central America and the people who live there. About the Authors Barbara Unse is a Californian with a lifelong interest in the Spanish beginnings of her state. Ms. Unse did undergraduate work in elementary education at San Jose State University and graduate work In Supervision and Elementary School Curriculum at San Francisco State ;'.nd Stanford University. Ms. Linse lived in Mexico for three years with her husband and twin son and daugh- ter. She has also done extensive study and travel throughout Mexico and Central America. Ms. Unse has been involved in education as a teacher, curriculum consultant, and supervisor of student teachers. She developed and taught Mexican folk culture for elementary school teachers at the Un'versity of California. Currently, she delights in sharing her ideas and knowledge with other teachers through her writings. Richard Judd graduated from Pennsylvania State University with an M. Ed. He completed a B.S. In elementary education at Lock Haven State (University), a teacher-training center in central Pennsylvania. In California, he has completed credential work In the graduate schools of San Francisco State University and at the University of California, Berkeley. Now retired, Mr. Judd worked in elementary education in San Anse Imo, California. He was an elementary principal for twenty years. He gave extra time during his administrative duties to boost music and art wherever pos- sibie. Mr. Judd specializes in adapting craft skills of other cultures e' and passes these experiences on to teachers and students in the United States. Mr. Judd and his family have traveled extensively throughout the world studying the arts and he has taken an interest in celebrating cultural differences.     Wintersowing Notes - Lynn Watson Garden hungry people, you can start planting seeds for spring right now. Plant annual, perennial, and vegetable seeds. Germination is inside mini-greenhouses of translucent plastic recyclables: (Clear milk jugs and pop bottles). No indoor light set up and no inside watering. Plant, then, place containers in the snow. Keep sowing containers of seeds all winter. Plants grown outside = need no hardening off. Transplants go into spring gardens. Supplies: *Translucent Milk/Water jugs/Liter pop bottles * Warm Water * Germination mix * Plant Seeds Bypass Hand Shears/ Steak Knife * Shallow Plastic tubs (2) Preparing Containers: Selecting Containers - The container must hold enough germination mix for the roots and provide headroom for the sprouts. Containers can dry out quickly on a warm spring day; use ½ gallon milk jugs, water jugs and pop bottles so you can put deeper potting mix in them. The container must be translucent enough to let sufficient light in for your seedlings; check that you can see your finger through the plastic from the inside. Re-inflate squashed ones by filling with hot water. Rinse all containers with hot soapy water. Rinse well. Ventilation and Drainage - You must have sufficient ventilation holes (top) and drainage holes in the bottom of your containers to allow rain/snow melt to enter, ventilate and drain freely to avoid seed rot. The soil should be able to retain sufficient water to allow germination. Cutting Steps: If you choose milk jugs or pop bottles, recycle the cap the (Or save them for pot feet.) Use a stiff steak knife or bypass cutters to make cuts.

    I lea na Azor Investigadora Titular por la Acade­ mia de Ciencias de Cuba y Doctora en Ciencias sobre Arte. Ha sido profesora en el Instituto Superior de Arte de la Habana y ha dictado conferencias en universidades e instituciones culturales de Estados Unidos, España, Rusia, Argentina, Alemania, Venezuela, Puerto Rico y México. Numerosos ensa­ yos suyos han aparecido en revistas especializadas de Europa, Estados Unidos y América Latina. Actual­ mente es profesora de Tiempo Completo y dirige la Licenciatura en Teatro de la Universidad de las RESUMEN Américas-Puebla (México). Desde mucho antes de la «era posmoderna», los que nos autodenominamos o dejamos que nos ubiquen como occidentales arribamos a la convicción de que las verdades absolutas y las respuestas totalizadoras no existen. Las manifestaciones artísticas, por su parte, han sido siempre un buen antídoto para la mirada única y definitiva. Por lo tanto, fiel a esta historia, propongo un acercamiento metodológico a las fiestas populares mexicanas y específicamente a los carnavales desde perspectivas provenientes de la antropología, la etnoesecenología y la teatralidad. Partiremos de un vasto y rico corpus que se estimaba hace cerca de 10 años en más de 5000 fiestas. Por ello haré una caracterización central del problema teórico-metodológico y esto me permitirá aplicarlo a algunos carnavales de varios estados de la república, entre los que se encuentran los rurales y urbanos de Puebla de los Angeles.
