The “billion” refers to the statistic that one in three women will be abused in her lifetime which is about one billion women worldwide. This week we will be recognizing this movement in a variety of ways. Today you will notice that a representation of that statistic is shown in each classroom by using three balloons, two pink and one orange. Along with this, there are various posters around the school featuring the “I rise” statements that you submitted last week. Thank you for using your voices to inspire change and important conversations surrounding this topic. Today in recognition of this movement we would like to share this important statistic with you. According to the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence, on average, nearly 20 people per minute are physically abused by an intimate partner in the United States. If you are ever put in this situation, please call the national domestic abuse hotline at 1-800-799-SAFE. Today in both lunches, students will be handing out heart suckers that have this hotline on them.

This year green club members and administrators created a functioning recycling system here at MHS. We would like to thank everyone for working with us to dump classroom recycling bins each Friday. Recyclable items include paper, cardboard, water and pop bottles, aluminum cans, and pop cans. Please remember that paper towels are not recyclable and should be thrown away in the trash. A complete list of all recyclable and non-recyclable items is in each classroom located by the recycling bins. Thank you!"
