Content I. University Authorities II. Convocation III. University Adminstration IV. Schools: Campus and Sub-Centre V. Affiliated Colleges-Activites VI. List of Affiliated Colleges VII. Statistical Table Appendix 1 Editorial We are very happy to present you the annual report of Academic year 2009-2010 of Swami Ramanand Teerth Marathwada University. Education is an important instrument to enrich human mind and personality. Higher education develops the life style of common man. Therefore University and affiliated colleges are conducting many student oriented projects. The physical and qualitative development of University is the result of Hon. Vice Chancellor Dr. Sarjerao Nimse’s exceptional and outstanding leadership. We can see the change at every sphere of life which is the result of dynamic progress of science, technology and communication. Globalization has changed the traditional old methods and more opportunities. In these circumstances University updated syllabus and made more constructive and structural changes. Hon. Vice Chancellor personally thinks that overall personal development of student is more important than mare bookish merit. Therefore more fundamental facilities are being provided to the students. We believe that University is making students more perfect for the world-competation. University granted autonomy to the educational schools so that they may necessarily change syllabus whenever they need and may form more transparency in it. In this way we believe that merit of students will increase day by day. Various scholarships are being granted to students on University level. Today we can see many students are working on various research projects. Now we can see that schools of Language, Literature and Cultural Studies, Media Studies, Education Studies, etc are working in separate buildings.

  • Water Levels Dip in Reservoirs, Alarm Bells Ring
Sep 04 2015 : The Economic Times (Delhi) Water Levels Dip in Reservoirs, Alarm Bells Ring Across States Madhvi Sally New Delhi: Falling water levels in 91 major reservoirs to hit availability for irrigation & drinking The country is heading for a shortage of water for irrigation and drinking as water level in 91 major reservoirs has dipped 16% below normal, and is expected to deplete further with the monsoon on the verge of withdrawal. The Central Water Commission, which monitors reservoirs, plans to issue advisories to states about the situation after the weather office formally announces the date when the monsoon withdraws. Reservoirs usually fill up during the monsoon season, which provides about 75% of the country's rainfall, and supply water for irrigation and drinking for the rest of the year. Officials say the situation is particularly disturbing in western and southern regions although central Indian reservoirs have adequate water. The situation in the north is also better due to heavy downpours in the Himalayan states. AB Pandya, chairman of the Cen tral Water Commission, said the situation is being monitored. “We are waiting for the India Meteorological Department to give the monsoon withdrawal dates. After that we will be in a better situation to come with an advisory,“ he said. The water situation is much worse than last year, when the monsoon began with a severe dry spell of six weeks, but rainfall improved significantly towards the end of the season and filled up reservoirs to optimal levels. This year, the monsoon began strongly but has tapered off in August, leaving reservoirs depleted.

  • The High Deccan Duricrusts of India and Their Significance for the 'Laterite
The High Deccan duricrusts of India and their significance for the ‘laterite’ issue Cliff D Ollier1 and Hetu C Sheth2,∗ 1School of Earth and Geographical Sciences, The University of Western Australia, Nedlands, W.A. 6009, Australia. 2Department of Earth Sciences, Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay, Powai, Mumbai 400 076, India. ∗e-mail: [email protected] In the Deccan region of western India ferricrete duricrusts, usually described as laterites, cap some basalt summits east of the Western Ghats escarpment, basalts of the low-lying Konkan Plain to its west, as well as some sizeable isolated basalt plateaus rising from the Plain. The duricrusts are iron-cemented saprolite with vermiform hollows, but apart from that have little in common with the common descriptions of laterite. The classical laterite profile is not present. In particular there are no pisolitic concretions, no or minimal development of con- cretionary crust, and the pallid zone, commonly assumed to be typical of laterites, is absent. A relatively thin, non-indurated saprolite usually lies between the duricrust and fresh basalt. The duricrust resembles the classical laterite of Angadippuram in Kerala (southwestern India), but is much harder. The High Deccan duricrusts capping the basalt summits in the Western Ghats have been interpreted as residuals from a continuous (but now largely destroyed) laterite blan- ket that represents in situ transformation of the uppermost lavas, and thereby as marking the original top of the lava pile. But the unusual pattern of the duricrusts on the map and other evidence suggest instead that the duricrusts formed along a palaeoriver system, and are now in inverted relief.
