As I recall I assumed the Presidency in 2010 & 2011. Today BMCCI re-electing me as President for the 2nd term 2018–2019. I want to express my gratitude to BMCCI Members for their trust & confidence on me in reelecting me to serve as President. BMCCI expanded a lot in last 16 years. Its membership crossed 250 figure, Activities extended, financially become strong. Office shifted to bigger space, new staff recruitment is going on. Many new Initiatives are taken.

Country moving fast. Bangladesh graduated from LDC to developing Country. We achieved Millennium goal & now we are in a heading SDG. To achieve SDG, role of Private Sector became more inclusive. Government & Private Sector must work Syed Moazzam Hossain closely. All Institutions must be research oriented & professionally administered.

To face the challenge of sustainable growth country needs to address the following with priority. All Infrastructures now in the process and or in planning must be completed in time. Financial Management & Cost of fund must be reduced to tangible level. Priority must be given to Research, Innovation & Development in all levels. Education policy & Curriculum of courses must be designed on need based. Until Good Governance in established no tangible growth could be achieved. New Budget should be efficiently implemented Safety, Security & Political Stability will consolidate the Sustainable growth.

This year BMCCI is going to increase its membership to minimum 300. So every member’s support is needed. On regular program SHOWCASE BANGLADESH 2018 IN KUALALUMPUR will be planned in October/November 2018 along with Investment Summit. We are trying to establish Research Cell & Continue our Luncheon Program. I invite all members to be involved in chamber activities and make the chamber effective & goal oriented.

Our Pride is our Past Presidents, our strength is our members. Our focus to create opportunity through our activities & networking among business community of Bangladesh & Malaysia.

Editorial

This is welcome - a new Board of Directors has taken over the helm of affairs of the BMCCI for the period 2018-2019. Expectation of the members does take a newer height from a newly inducted body, the one shunts for rich experience coupled with added enthusiasm and backed by increasing volume of trade and commerce from both the countries.

Bangladesh-Malaysia Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BMCCI) by now has occupied a leading place among the Joint Chambers through its manifold business related programs like rotational annual Showcase in Bangladesh and Malaysia, multi sectoral Business Delegations to & from, Investment Summit and lastly Luncheon Meeting. The last Luncheon Meeting on Blue Economy has infused quite a lot of Jahurul Islam Chowdhury interest among the members. Blue Economy, to say the least, is presumed, will add a new dimension in the economy of the country if properly planned and harnessed in keeping with the speed of time.

BMCCI welcomes the offing of an apex body for the Joint Chambers in line with the FBCCI, to a reasonable extent, which has so long been a sought after expectation for obvious reasons. Having taken shape and being functional the apex body is expected to deliver the role of quite a constructive spectrum in so far as the coordination and boosting of trade and commerce.

Trade and investment volume is continuously in favour of Malaysia, which is gradually improving towards Bangladesh side. Vigorous efforts needed to gradually improve upon this aspect. This Chamber has a thoughtfully effective role in the coming years, through encouraging the members in all possible ways.

We request the BMCCI members to express their views/ opinions on the current topics under the purview of changing situation of trade and commerce and also share the outstanding performance, on any sphere, particularly academic feats of their wards enabling to publish in this Newsletter.
