Microsoft is seeking to hire an experienced fraud strategist to join its Fraud Investigations and Strategy Team. This team is growing, and its scope is expanding to include fraud investigation and disruption as well as full ownership of fraud prevention strategy for the numerous Microsoft online products and services. These businesses include internationally known brands such as Azure, Office 365, Windows Store, Xbox Live, Bing Ads, , and many others. The fraud strategist’s key focus is data analysis, but the role is also part investigator, part program manager, part negotiator, and part firefighter. Creativity, passion, leadership, and tenacity are necessary traits. Each day the team is presented with situations that require unique and well considered responses to foil relentless fraud attacks. We are the front line of defense for Microsoft in the large and growing ecommerce space. Because of this, we are looking for an ecommerce fraud expert with a strong data analytics background to join our team.

You’ll serve as the team’s subject matter expertise on fraud detection, prevention and mitigation for the various offerings of at least one online business, while simultaneously maintaining a working knowledge of several other businesses to support your colleagues as needed. You’ll collaborate closely with various teams across the company to drive strategies involving both real time and post-real time risk decisioning, manual review, and other collaborative efforts with the various business groups. You’ll also be accountable for helping the team meet key performance indicators for their focus businesses.

• Employ analytic techniques to devise and implement new statistical rules and other fraud strategy enhancements • Analyze new data sources to find novel patterns, and continually refine our fraud monitoring, detection, and mitigation processes • Collaborate with engineering and partner teams cross-company in support of implementing comprehensive fraud strategies • Work independently to detect, investigate, and understand new emerging fraud vectors and vulnerabilities • Adhere to platform KPIs related to fraud and customer experience

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications • Self-motivated, tenacious team player • Excellent communication and collaboration skills • Bachelor’s degree, preferably in a quantitative or analytic field of study. Other relevant experience considered in lieu of specific degree • 4+ years of experience conducting analysis on large, complex data sets to detect and investigate anomalies, develop actionable insights, and/or develop strategy • 4+ years of experience authoring complex original queries using T-SQL (or a comparable language) • Experience combating fraud, abuse, or other undesired activity in an e-commerce or financial system, identity system, advertising platform, marketplace, or similar domain • Advanced user of products, especially Excel • Desire to learn and improve constantly

Strongly Preferred Qualifications • Strong technical problem-solving skills • E-commerce fraud or payments experience • Experience developing models, algorithms, or statistical rules for a protection system • Outstanding math and statistics skills with demonstrated applied machine learning and/or analytics experience • Ability to drive good decisions through data with great attention to detail • Graduate degree in a quantitative or analytic field of study • Experience using C#, Python, R, SAS or comparable technology to analyze/model data • Excellent presentation skills
