from Superintendent Nels Onstad

As educators we always look forward to the start of each school year. This year, more than ever we are anxious to have our students return to school in a typical fashion. As we move out of the pandemic to a more traditional start to the school year we begin with an even more intentional focus on students at ACGC.

This past spring and summer the school board began listening sessions and established a strategic plan committee made up of stakeholders from the community, board, administration and staff to develop a strategic plan. The plan will assist and guide the district and prioritize decisions. There are four areas of focus identified by the committee: student achievement, student and staff support, communications/outreach and marketing, and financial management.

Student achievement is clearly the priority of every district. ACGC has been and will continue to provide a well-rounded curriculum including CTE, Arts, and Social Emotional Learning. The district will be engaging in a curriculum review starting this year. This process includes evaluating data and ensuring curriculum materials adequately address state standards. Beyond the curriculum, ACGC is committed to providing supports for all students. We know there are social emotional needs which have gone unmet and we will continue to align resources for our students wellbeing. Students need to feel safe, supported, and included to maximize learning.

The strategic plan also focuses on how we communicate with stakeholders. The first step in this process is to redesign our website. We are excited to roll out our new design which will feature an app for users. The new website is currently being developed and we expect it will be in place for the start of the school year.

Our district is incredibly fortunate to be in a stable financial position. The community support has allowed our district to update facilities. We have increased programming in preschool and as a result have expanded to include an additional section. There is no doubt the pandemic has put a financial strain on all businesses, families, and schools. We are committed to maintaining a solid financial position while providing the best possible learning experience for our students.

We have an incredible staff committed to our students. ACGC has and will continue to engage staff in professional development which will have a direct impact on student achievement. I have no doubts our Falcon Family will do all they can to ensure a positive learning experience for each and every student!

We all are welcoming the return of a new normal for the start of the school year.

ACGC Parents and Students:

It is our pleasure to welcome everyone back for the 2021-22 school year! We are excited to have students back in our classrooms and hallways filling them with energy and enthusiasm for learning. It is our goal to help every child feel welcomed, connected, and a part of our ACGC family. Additionally, we strive to challenge each student to grow in his or her academic abilities. As partners in your child’s education, we ask that you guide and support your child’s learning by ensuring that he/she: ● Attends school daily and arrives on time, ready for the day’s learning experience ● Completes all assignments given by teachers ● Reads daily to develop a love for reading and to improve literacy skills ● Shares school experiences with you so that you are aware of his/her school life ● Informs you if he/she needs additional support in any area or subject ● Know that you expect him/her to succeed in school.

Thank you for your partnership throughout the upcoming school year.

Enjoy the remainder of summer vacation!
