The attendees were able to get a sneak peek at the new museum on June 2 and then attended “Building Excellence & Serving Our Sport” on June 3. The conference featured a presentation by the National Wrestling Hall of Fame Ethics Committee as well as state chapters presenting best practices and exchanging ideas on how to give back and help grow the sport.

The Class of 2016 included three outstanding amateur wrestlers with Bob Backlund, who was a NCAA Division II national champion for North Dakota State in 1971; Khosrow Vaziri, aka “The Iron Sheik,” who was an AAU Greco-Roman national champion; and Joe Blanchard, who was a Big 7 champion for Kansas State in 1950. James J. Dillon was presented with the Lou Thesz Award, and Dave Meltzer received the Jim Melby Award, while Lex Luger was honored with the Frank Gotch Award, and Chael Sonnen was the recipient of the George Tragos Award. Record-setting crowds had the opportunity to meet and interact with honorees and other greats from professional wrestling, including WWE® Superstar Big E,™ a Florida state wrestling champion and then a defensive lineman for the University of Iowa, as well as attend forums and autograph sessions and the banquet. A crowd of 700 was treated to an Impact Pro Wrestling Show on July 22 at Five Sullivan Brothers Convention Center. Members of the Glen Brand Wrestling Hall of Fame’s Class of 2016.
