Icho and Yoshida have won gold medals at their previous three Olympic Games and will be favorites to go where no wrestler – male or female – has gone before when they arrive on the mats at Carioca Arena 2 on Wednesday and Thursday. Greco-Roman legend Alexander KARELIN (RUS) is the only wrestler to have had a glimpse of a fourth gold medal when he advanced to the 130kg final at Sydney 2000. He had to settle for the silver medal, however, after a 1-0 loss to Rulon GARDNER (USA). According to an IOC Factsheet released October 2015, the only winners of four gold medals in the same individual events in the Olympic Games are Paul ELVSTROM (DEN, 1948-1960) in sailing, Al OERTER (USA, 1956-1968) in the discus throw and Carl LEWIS (USA, 1984-1996) in the long jump. Icho will get first chance at a fourth gold medal on Wednesday, August 17, when the women’s welterweights (58kg) take to the mat, while Yoshida takes her shot the following day at 53kg. Silver medalist to Yoshida the last three years, Sofia MATTSSON (SWE) and world champion at 55kg Helen MAROULIS (USA) are the leading challengers among the women’s lightweights. At 58kg, 2014 world runner-up Valerie KOBLOVA (RUS) may be the leading challenger to Icho but 2013 junior world bronze medalist PUREVDORJ Orkhon (MGL) makes her Olympic Games debut owning a win over Icho at the Yarygin Grand Prix in January. Rio 2016 will also be the first Olympic Games in which women will be competing in six weight categories since women’s wrestling made its debut at Athens 2004. Among the leaders for the medals will be London 2012 gold medalist Natalia VOROBIEVA (RUS) at 69kg, silver medalist Mariya STADNIK (AZE) at 48kg and bronze medalist SORONZONBOLD Battsetseg (MGL) at 63kg as well as three-time world champion Adeline GRAY (USA). While Icho is the biggest name to kick off the women’s events on Wednesday, the Japanese trio includes three-time world champion Eri TOSAKA (48kg) and three-time world medalist Sara DOSHO (69kg). Tosaka squeezed out a late win over Stadnik in the 48kg finals in Las Vegas, but fell in similar fashion in the semifinals of the Asian championships Bangkok to eventual champion SUN Yanan (CHN). Mariya STADNIK (AZE) Top-ranked Stadnik won a bronze medal at Beijing 2008 as well as the silver in London and now has a chance to complete her set of Olympic Games medals with a triumph in the gold medal final at 48kg. At 69kg, Vorobieva, who won her gold medal at 72kg, secured her first world title in 2015 with a victory over Asian Games gold medalist ZHOU Feng (CHN). Former world champions Aline FOCKEN (GER) and Jenny FRANSSON (SWE) are primed after wins in Germany and Poland. On Thursday, August 18, Yoshida will face two of her most determined challengers ever in Mattsson and Maroulis. Mattsson could be in line to secure Sweden’s first medal in women’s wrestling at the Olympic Games – although sister Johanna MATTSSON (58kg) and Fransson will have their chances for Sweden on the first day. Maroulis, meanwhile, will be in the hunt for the first gold medal in women’s wrestling for the United States, but the historical “first” gold could also fall to Elena PIROZHKOVA (63kg) or Gray at 75kg later in the evening. At 63kg, world champion SORONZONBOLD Battsetseg (MGL), who owns a bronze medal from London 2012, will be trying to become Mongolia’s first gold medalist in wrestling – and third overall for Mongolia at the Olympic Games. Former world champion Yulia TKACH (UKR) tossed Soronzonbold for a fall at the Poland Open in June and holds the No.1 ranking. Challenges will also come from world silver medalist Risako KAWAI (JPN) and European champion Maria MAMASHUK (BLR). Gray is the odds-on favorite at 75kg, but 2013 world champion ZHANG Fengliu (CHN) will try to follow in the footsteps of earlier gold medal- winning heavyweights from China -- WANG Xu (Athens 2004) and WANG Jiao (Beijing 2008). Examinor: Olov Nilsson Abstract Introduction: The administration of hypodermic needles can be associated with issues like physical and psychological pain. A novel method to administrate compounds such as vaccines and other drugs is therefore warranted. Microneedles (MNs) that consist of multiple needles in the microscopic region causes little to no pain and have successfully delivered drugs both locally and systemically. The MNs are often divided into subgroups like biodegradable MNs that can either be coated for immediate release or have the drug substance incorporated in the material resulting in an extended release. The biodegradable MNs in this study were made from calcium sulfate, commonly known as gypsum, which have been used previously in for example craniofacial surgeries. Objective: The purpose of the study was to find coating formulations that displayed good coating uniformity without compromising the needle sharpness. The formulation should be evenly distributed on top of the MN array without diffusing into the material. It should also be miscible with sodium salicylate and present an immediate release according to release studies. Method: MN arrays were constructed of calcium sulfate with two different sieve fractions (≤125 µm and ≤63µm) to determine the potential difference. After determining the optimal sieve fraction the MNs were coated with different combinations of PEG 3350, sodium alginate, Kollicoat® IR and distilled water which acted as a reference. Evaluation of the formulations concerned coating uniformity and the extent of diffusion through the material.

    Wrestling Roundup: Russia men still dominates, Japan women repeats glory 08:50, August 22, 2008 Russia continued its dominance in wrestling, one of world's oldest sports, at the Beijing Olympics, while Japanese female wrestlers made the same achievements as they did in Athens. In particular, Russia topped the medal tally with six golds, three silvers and two bronzes, followed by Japan and Georgia with two golds. China, Uzbekistan, the United States, Canada, France, Turkey, Cuba and Italy got one each. * RUSSIAN MEN'S DOMINANCE* Before the Olympics, people expected to see Russia continue their ruling in men's freestyle wrestling, after it won six of seven titles in World Championships in Baku, Azerbaijan. At the Athens Games, Russia ranked first with 5-2-3, all golds from men's wrestling. In all, Russia won six of eighteen wrestling golds at the Beijing Games, three in Greco- Roman and three in freestyle. They failed to move further in men's freestyle, while the Greco- Roman won one more than they had four years ago. Nazyr Mankiev opened the gate of victory as he won men's Greco-Roman 55kg title, which was also the first gold of wrestling events at the Beijing Olympics. Islam-Beka Albiev of 60kg and Aslanbek Khushtov of 96kg separately triumphed in their categories, which let Russia win golds totally different from they won in Athens. Russia won Greco-Roman golds in 84kg and 120kg divisions. Athens winner in freestyle 55kg Mavlet Batirov moved up to 60kg category in 2006 and easily won golds at Beijing.
