Caroline Chepkwony (Kenya) was the women’s winner, clocking a world-class time as well with 1:22:56. Adding all running events of the day there were a total of 10,478 athletes competing in Germany’s oldest city road race. In the history of the event, which started back in 1981 and always had the finish inside the Berlin Olympic Stadium, this was already the seventh world record. It was only the third time Dennis Kimetto competed in a race outside Kenya. On Sunday he kept his clean sheet and additionally collected his first world record. After taking the half marathons in Ras Al Khaimah and Berlin the 25 k triumph was the biggest success of his career so far. He improved the world record by 32 seconds. Two years ago fellow-Kenyan Sammy Kosgei had clocked 1:11:50 in the BIG 25 Berlin. A very fast men’s race developed right from the start. A leading group of six runners passed the 5 k mark in 14:00, then reached the 10 k point after 28:21 and the 15 k point in 42:46 minutes. They were well inside the world record at these points and kept the pace high. After 17 k Ethiopians Aschalew Neguse Meketa and Belay Asefa Bedada were dropped and it became an all Kenyan affair in the leading group. Soon after that at the start of a slight uphill stretch Edwin Kiptoo lost contact as well. 05 Apr 37th Annual Cooper River Bridge Run Race Winners Announced Posted at 11:47h in CRBR Fun! , Events , News , Uncategorized by momentum 0 Likes Mount Pleasant, S.C. – April 5, 2014 – Julian Smith, Executive Director of The Cooper River Bridge Run (CRBR), just announced that nearly 40,000 participants successfully crossed the Arthur Ravenel Bridge from Mount Pleasant to downtown Charleston at the 37th Annual Cooper River Bridge Run that was held this morning on April 5, 2014. WORLD MOUNTAIN RUNNING ASSOCIATION NEWSLETTER 2015 Issue 20 • July 2015 Stella Chesang (UGA) Philip Kipyeko (UGA) Junior Women Junior Men World Champion 2014 World Champion 2014 Andrea Mayr (AUT) Isaac Kiprop (UGA) Senior Women Senior Men World Champion 2014 World Champion 2014 Message from Bruno GOZZELINO – Message from WMRA President Lamine DIACK – IAAF President One more year has passed since the last edition and I am proud to introduce to you the 2015 WMRA Newsletter! It gives me great pleasure to write 2014 was a good year with the usual four Championships for which you will fi nd my annual address for the WMRA all the details in the next pages: the World Championships nicely organised on a Newsletter and to look forward to very special course in Casette di Massa (Italy), but also the Long Distance in Pikes another exciting year of WMRA Lamine Diack Peaks (USA), the Youth in Arco di Trento (Italy again) and the Masters in Telfes competition. Photo by IAAF (Austria). This is of course a poignant moment The WMRA World Cup (new name of the past WMRA Grand Prix) continues to be for me as in August at the IAAF Congress elections in Beijing a successful circuit with a real international participation. I will stand down as president, a position I have held since I would like to forward my very sincere tanks to all these organisers who are really 1999. Athletics is a diverse, fascinating and entertaining providing a strong support to our movement! sport which has seen many changes and developments in 2015 will see once again four World events, two of which will be held on the same my 16 years at the helm and even more since I became vice- place, Betws Y Coed (Wales, GBR) at one week difference: the Masters on the 12 president in 1976.
