He does make choice in terms of marriage alliance, both daughters and sons, decision about buying and selling properties, and maintaining family property day-to-day life. In addition, a patriarchal character of the Indian family is that a girl has to leave her father’s house to live with her in-laws for the rest of her life, meaning she is under the continuous protection of a male. And because an inheritance in India is usually traced through man, not a woman, the whole family sets are related to males who live together and share a property or even in case of tribal groups, a wife.
