President Barbara Asfendis 954-437-6805 [email protected] My dear Sisters in Council: Vice President Josephine Gilbert Often we think of the summer as a time for hiatus from our CCW work. However, I 305-510-3163 know from experience that it isn’t always true. A Council member’s work is never done! [email protected] On July 17th more than 25 MACCW members attended the noon mass at Christ the King Church for the Annual Haitian Mass. This event is held close to the Feast of Our Lady Recording Secretary of Perpetual Help, Patroness of Haiti, and layettes are presented to Haitian families with Ginny Bowes babies who are born closest to the feast day and in need of assistance. "Advent is concerned with that very connection between memory and hope which is so necessary to man. Advent’s intention is to awaken the most profound and basic emo- tional memory within us, namely, the memory of the God who became a child. This is a healing memory; it brings hope. The purpose of the Church’s year is continually to re- hearse her great history of memories, to awaken the heart’s memory so that it can discern the star of hope.…

It is the beautiful task of Advent to awaken in all of us memories of goodness and thus to open doors of hope."
