Brian Michael Bendis : Avengers: The Heroic Age before purchasing it in order to gage whether or not it would be worth my time, and all praised Avengers: The Heroic Age:

It's a nice sized hardcover collecting the bulk of the run with only a few issues excluded to make it read smoother. My only complaint is it features a cover that for some reason depicts the Avengers lineup from the first Avengers movie. That's somewhat problematic to me as it doesn't relate at all to the contents of the book and also really dates the book. That aside it's a great OHC and can still be found for pretty cheap, highly recommended!5 of 6 people found the following review helpful. Resets the after SiegeBy JmaynardThe Heroic Age is the short phase between the crossover events and Fear Itself. This book has three main sections that cover the Avengers teams. The first part of the book is Avengers Prime, which is a wrap-up story that follows directly after Siege. This one-shot tries to answer the question of whether Steve and Tony could ever work together again after . , Tony and Steve stand upon the ruins of Asgard when they are suddenly teleported away and separated. What follows is the three trying to reunite, having to deal with hostile residents, and Thor discovering that Asgard being on Earth, and subsequently destroyed, has thrown the realms into literal chaos. A dark force has taken control. This story is light on substance, but heavy on action and banter, and there is just enough plot to make it work. Overall, I loved it. It hit all the right notes and provided a bit of closure after some horrifying events. The second part of the book is the Avengers, Vol. 1. For me, this was the weakest part of the book. On the one hand, I love that Steve is back with the Avengers, with Thor and "resurrected", and trying to make peace with Tony. However, I was not happy to see their first challenge as a team is once again Ultron, with Kang thrown in to mix it up. I hate Ultron, and am not a fan of Kang either, because they are such one note villains. Here, Kang has broken the timestream and he needs the Avengers to fix it. This was obviously a set-up for the eventual crossover. An event I intend to skip...The third part of the book covers the New Avengers, Vol. 1. Steve chooses to lead this offshoot of the main team from while the other is in Avengers Tower. I really like the team dynamic here, and the humor was off the charts. The following exchange occurs after Luke invites onto the team:Ms. Marvel - "Luke, come on. He's in the already." - "Hey, I'm an X-Man and on two Avengers teams."Ms. Marvel - Yeah, how the hell do you do that?"Wolverine - "Multitasking. It's my mutant power. Don't tell anybody."The plot was also something new for me, as a power from another dimension wants the Eye of Agamotto, which means Dr. Strange has a major role. It was a good story with a lot of action and plenty of banter between the team members.Overall, though I found the Avengers section disappointing, this is a great collection that sets the stage for Fear Itself. And, the price is a good value compared to buying the individual books that cover this same material. Highly recommended.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Dont judge this book by its coverBy jason xGreat book , don't let the cover fool you. It is the link between civil war, new Avengers and finally the Avengers again

Brian Michael Bendis brings the Avengers out of the darkness and into a new heroic age! , Thor and have been the Avengers' heart and soul since the team's earliest days. But in the wreckage of Asgard, they find themselves squabbling over old wounds. As unstable magics cast the heroes-at-odds into the scattered Nine Realms, they quickly realize the world in which they're trapped is not how it should be. Can they come together and put it right? Then, as the three heroes re-forge the Avengers with the likes of Hawkeye, Spider-Man, Wolverine and Spider-Woman, Kang returns from the future bearing ill tidings of a force so powerful even he can't conquer it! Plus, what's next for the New Avengers? Steve Rogers offers Cage the reins of his own team, but which heroes will Luke choose to join him - assuming he even wants the gig to begin with? He better decide soon, because the forces of evil are literally dropping out of the sky - and even master mystics , Doctor Voodoo and Daimon Hellstrom are at a loss to stop it. It's time for Luke Cage and his New Avengers to step up, or their first mission may well be their last!COLLECTING: Avengers 1-6, Avengers Prime 1-5, New Avengers 1-6
