- Advertisement - Idaho potatoes score touchdown with bowl sponsorship August 3, 2011 The Famous Idaho Potato Bowl was unveiled Aug. 3 as the new name for the Humanitarian Bowl, which features top selections from the Western Athletic Conference and the Mid-American Conference. The nation’s longest-running outdoor cold-weather bowl, which has been played since 1997, will take place Saturday, Dec. 17 at Bronco Stadium in Boise, ID, and will be televised on ESPN. The Idaho Potato Commission signed a six-year naming rights deal to sponsor the bowl, beginning immediately and running through the 2016 game. As part of the package, the bowl will be featured prominently in national and regional marketing campaigns conducted by the commission. Four of the top five potato-consuming states are represented by the WAC and MAC conferences: New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania and Texas. 1 / 2 “We’re proud to support a bowl that has become a national showcase for the state of Idaho,” Frank Muir, president and chief executive officer of the Idaho Potato Commission, said in an Aug. 3 press release. “It’s the perfect opportunity to reinforce the health and quality benefits of Idaho potatoes to a national audience while supporting a game that has generated significant funds for the local economy and associated charities.” “Our new title sponsor ensures the longevity of the bowl and means that fans around the country will continue to see exciting games on the blue turf in Boise,” Kevin McDonald, executive director of the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl, added in the press release. For Immediate Release May 28, 2020 Contact: Russell Anderson ([email protected]) C-USA ANNOUNCES 2020-25 BOWL LINEUP DALLAS – Conference USA has announced the league’s bowl lineup that will span the six-year cycle from 2020-25. The conference is guaranteed seven bowl appearances in each year of the new cycle. “We are very pleased with our future bowl lineup,” said C-USA Commissioner Judy MacLeod. “Our teams will continue to have postseason opportunities in outstanding destinations that are very accessible to our schools and their fans. We are also excited to have additional flexibility to create great matchups.” As part of the new bowl cycle, C-USA will annually send teams to the Bahamas Bowl against a Mid-American Conference opponent, and to the R+L Carriers New Orleans Bowl, against a Sun Belt Conference school. The league has participated in all six Bahamas Bowls and has placed a team in the New Orleans Bowl 14 times in its first 18 years. As previously announced, the league will continue its relationship with the Independence Bowl. C-USA is guaranteed to send a team to the Shreveport, Louisiana-based bowl in 2021 and 2025, while holding a secondary agreement with the bowl in the other years of the cycle. C-USA will also continue its long-standing relationship with the Hawai’i Bowl. The league is set to participate in the Honolulu-based game in 2020, 2022 and 2024. Rhodes 2016 Armed Forces Merit Award Recipient
For release, 9 a.m. (CT), November 11, 2018 Rhodes 2016 Armed Forces Merit Award Recipient FORT WORTH, TEX. - U. S. Marine veteran Steven Rhodes, a senior defensive end at Middle Tennessee State University, is the fifth recipient of Armed Forces Merit Award presented by the Football Writers Association of America (FWAA). Coordinated by the staff at the Lockheed Martin Armed Forces Bowl, the Armed Forces Merit Award presented by the FWAA was created in June 2012 “to honor an individual and/or a group within the realm of the sport of football.” Brant Ringler, the Executive Director of the Lockheed Martin Armed Forces Bowl, and Steve Richardson, the FWAA’s Executive Director, announced here Friday that Rhodes, who will be 28 in 11 days, as the 2016 recipient during an 9 a.m. (CT) teleconference. A seven-person committee made up of FWAA members and Lockheed Martin Armed Forces Bowl officials selected Rhodes from a list of 16 nominations for the 2016 award. Nate Boyer of the University of Texas was named the initial recipient of the award in 2012 followed by Brandon McCoy of the University of North Texas in 2013, Daniel Rodriguez from Clemson University in 2014 and Bret Robertson of Westminster College (Fulton, Mo.) in 2015. All four individuals were U. S. Army veterans before playing college football. “On this very special day, Veterans’ Day 2016, we are pleased to join with the Football Writers Association of America to name Steven Rhodes as the fifth recipient of the Armed Forces Merit Award,” said Ringler. “We had a list of 16 outstanding nominations for this year’s award and it is difficult to select only one each year when we have individuals and programs that are very deserving of the honor.” Richardson echoed Ringler’s sentiments along with adding that the FWAA is “pleased to team with Lockheed Martin Armed Forces Bowl to recognize Rhodes’ achievement as a veteran who used his armed forces experiences to benefit his teammates and coaches at Middle Tennessee State University.
