Austin AIDS Ordinance Challenged by John Touchet

RACE, an Austin citizens' group's has requested repeal of the anti-AIDS discrimination ordinance acx:ording to the January 30 edition of the Daily Tsxan. RACE is a coalition including CAP (Citizens Against Pornography), Austin Grass Roots Coalition, and Austin Area Pastors' Association. Sam Hoerster, spokesman for RACE has threatened a lawsuit against the city if the ordinance is not repealed. RACE presents itself as a public interest group formed to protect the public health from the threat of AIDS and Tuberculosis. AIDS (Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome) is acquired only through the exchange of body fluids either during sex or blood transfusion. Tuberculosis (TB) can be easily spread and is highly contagious in its commonly-known form. Unbeknownst to RACE, persons with AIDS contrad a rare form of TB which is not contagious, according to Dr. Phil Zbylot of the Austin/Travis County Health Department. For more information about the ordinance or the controversy, please write to: Austin AIDS-Related Discrimination Task Force, P.O. Box 2505, Austin, TX, 78768. Discrimination complaints are being compiled for reports to the city. The Au~tin ordinance covers employment, housing, public accommodations, medical services, or any other service refused on the basis of suspected AIDS infection. 8th National Lesbian & Gay Health Conference Planned

If you've been reading Honesty lately , you have seen that some of Honesty's'predictions have come true. Well, I'm gonna go way out on a limb this week, with this prediction. After many weeks of listening and watching some of San Antonio's most popular female impersonators get ready for the Tenth Annual Miss Gay San Antonio pageant, I already have a feeling in my bones (either I'm right with my prediction or I'm overworKed). So, don't be surprised, come Friday night the 20th, if San Antonio doesn't see Miss Vita Vixen kneeling as Sweet Savage turns over her title and crown. Either way it should be interesting to see. Don't miss the show. Well, gang I have to sign off for now, got another order- Oh, just want some more tea? Be right there I Luvya.
