Rationing in capital on the ca rds

• CHRISTOF MALETSKY WINDHOEK may face stiff water rationing - possibly from today - if residents do not substantially cut down their water usage. The latest water crisis to hit Windhoek comes after the water pipeline from the main reservoir supplying the capital, Von Bach Dam, was seri ously damaged on Friday. If water consumption does not drop fears are rife that industries might end up without water as early as some time today. Contravention of the call to save water is being regarded as "sabotage under the present circum stances" by the Municipality, according to deputy City Engineer, Ben van der Merwe. Yesterday officials from the Munic~pa1ity toured Windhoek's suburbs appealing to residents through loudspeakers to stop watering gardens, washing cars with hosepipes and filling swimming pools until Wednesday or Thursday this week by which ~I O'iV OPE~I time the pipeline may be fixed.
