If you want to work in New Zealand after you’ve completed your studies you will need a work permit. You can apply for a Post-Study Work Visa for a maximum of 12 months if you successfully complete a qualification in New Zealand that qualifies for points under the Skilled Migrant Category of Residence Policy. You must apply for this work no later than three months after the end date of your student permit for that qualification. Once you have secured relevant employment you can then apply for either a post study two-year work permit or proceed directly to the Skilled Migrant Category.
