“Beautify Subang Project" Focus Malaysia | 18 Feb 2019 13:52 DPI Holdings Berhad (“DPI Holdi
focusmalaysia.my/All/dpi-holdings-initiates-beautify-subang-project All DPI Holdings initiates “Beautify Subang Project" Focus Malaysia | 18 Feb 2019 13:52 DPI Holdings Berhad (“DPI Holdings” or “the Group”) had today, in a milestone moment, launched the “Beautify Subang Project” with an uplifting mural on a building façade. The launch was officiated by Subang Jaya State Assemblywoman Yang Berhormat Michelle Ng, Subang Member of Parliament Yang Berhormat Wong Chen and EXCO PBT Selangor cum Kinrara State Assemblyman Yang Berhormat Ng Sze Han alongside DPI Holdings’ Executive Chairman and Managing Director Peter Chai as well as DPI Holdings’ Deputy Managing Director, Adam Chai. The mural, one of the largest to be found in Subang, which was illustrated by acclaimed British artist Gabriel Pitcher took over 15 days to be completed. Under the theme, “Change”, the mural depicts a young lady looking at her reflection which represents both her older and newer self. In the illustration, the newer self is depicted as facing the mirror reflection and is represented by more vibrant colours. These pronounced colours signify her transformed self as she continues to improve herself. Meanwhile, the older self which is portrayed to have her back facing the spectator is represented by lighter, desaturated colours. “2019 is a year of change for us. We began the year with a successful listing on the ACE Market and in our bid to continue this momentum of transformation, we have embarked on a “Beautify Subang Project” which aims to transform the cityscape,” said Peter Chai, Executive Chairman and Managing Director of DPI Holdings Berhad. -

For the last two months, we have been hit very hard by the pandemic and there seems to be no near end in sight. The Emergency proclamation in January, ostensibly to fight COVID-19 has now been proven to be a complete political sham. Malaysia is the only country in the world where after Emergency has been declared (together with the suspension of Parliament), the pandemic situation has actually worsened instead of improving. This inability to contain the pandemic is the result of an incompetent and anti-democratic government that is weak in leadership and poor in policy planning. I get no joy in criticising the PN government but it is now as clear as day that without the checks and balances provided by parliament, their incompetency will only grow to the detriment of Malaysians from the pandemic. However, this newsletter is not so much about politics; for that you can follow me on my active social media posts. This newsletter is basically a report card of sorts of what my office and I have been doing in the last six months. -

The Role of Social Media in the Bersih Movement's Mobilisation
School of Media, Creative Arts and Social Inquiry Personalised Communicative Ecologies: The role of social media in the Bersih movement’s mobilisation Ik Ying Ngu 0000-0001-6385-2831 This thesis is presented for the Degree of Doctor of Philosophy Of Curtin University January, 2021 DECLARATION “To the best of my knowledge and belief this thesis contains no material previously published by any other person except where due acknowledgement has been made. This thesis contains no material which has been accepted for any other degree or diploma in any university”. Human Ethics (For projects involving human participants/tissue, etc) The research presented and reported in this thesis was conducted in accordance with the National Health and Medical Research Council National Statement on Ethical Conduct in Human Research (2007) – updated March 2014. The proposed research study received human research ethics approval from the Curtin University Human Research Ethics Committee (EC00262); Approval Number #HRE2017-0273. Signature : Date :…1/2/2021… ABSTRACT This thesis examines how a social movement uses social media in mobilising individuals to engage in the development of electoral reform and democracy in Malaysia. The way individuals engage with social media in their everyday lives and what encourages them to communicate and participate provides continual challenges for social movement activists. My study uses Foth and Hearn’s (2007) notion of ecology as a foundation to explain the interdependencies of citizens, place, and technology in the context of a social movement. A communicative ecology model sees social media as an environment and argues that communication and information should not be studied alone because there are different people, media, activities, and relationships involved (Tacchi, 2004; Foth & Hearn, 2007; Strate, 2017). -
