To The Editor:

I read with great interest your front-page article of February the 13th on the Faculty Senate Committee's refusal to address the divestment petition organized by Professor Shapoor Vali. Despite whatever opinions this may evoke in the general student body at large, or in myself personally, it illustrates that a student presence on the University Senate may act as a means to directly express student concerns to the key decision makers of this great university.

Many an issue must be pulled from the pages of The Observer, The Paper, other Fordham publications, and the various student representative groups and be raised directly with the University Senate- by students and not by self-declared faculty proxies. It is about time that the University Senate accepts student members and follows the lead of other great universities such as Columbia and Cornell.
