THE ACADEMY Holy Names Academy is an all-girls Catholic high school founded in 1880 by the Sisters of the Holy Names of Jesus and Mary. The school offers excellent academic, arts, athletic, spiritual, and leadership programs that promote the development of the whole person in an environment of inclusion, collaboration, and community. POLICY OF NONDISCRIMINATION Holy Names Academy admits students of any race, color, religion, national or ethnic origin, or disability that can be reasonably accommodated to all the rights, privileges, programs, and activities generally accorded or made available to students at the school. POLICY OF NON-HARASSMENT Holy Names Academy strictly prohibits harassment of any kind. Holy Names Academy believes that all students, faculty, and staff members must be allowed to work in an environment free from harassment, discrimination, intimidation, hazing, or bullying. Such actions include any systematic or repeated attempts to inflict emotional, psychological, or physical distress on another person. The school reserves the right to discipline students for conduct occurring on or off school property. CALENDAR FOR ADMISSION TO HOLY NAMES ACADEMY IN FALL 2021 Holy Names Academy Fall Open Houses Families from ALL middle schools are welcome to attend whichever event is most convenient. Open House webinars will be recorded and available on the HNA website. Thursday, October 1 at 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 6 at 7:00 p.m. Sunday, October 18 at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, November 12 at 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 2 at 7:00 p.m. Scholarship/Placement Exam: Holy Names Academy does not require an Admissions Exam for admission in fall 2021. Instead, students can submit standardized test scores from within the past two years. Schools can include these with the transcript. If this is not an option, limited space is available for an in-person exam at HNA on: Saturday, December 12, 2020 OR Sunday, December 13, 2020 8:30am-12:30pm 9:30am-1:30pm 10:30am-2:30pm $40 pre-registration by December 7 $50 after December 7 Financial Aid Application Deadline Monday, December 31, 2020 Requires separate application (available as of Friday, October 2, 2020). Decision Letters Mailed Thursday, February 11, 2021 New Student Reply Forms Thursday, February 25, 2021 – Noon and Registration Fee Due 9th-Grade Registration Sunday, February 28, 2021 Noon – 4 p.m. at HNA 2 ADMISSIONS PHILOSOPHY Admission to Holy Names Academy is based on the school’s ability to meet the needs of the applicant and the applicant’s potential to benefit from the school’s philosophy and rigorous, college-preparatory program. A student’s potential is evidenced by her written application, teacher evaluation, school report, academic transcript, report cards, standardized test scores at or above grade level, and satisfactory attendance/punctuality record. Our program best serves students who: • Have a solid foundation in academics. • Are self-disciplined and well organized. • Value a multicultural community. • Are respectful, responsible, and contributing citizens. • Can successfully balance academic challenges with co-curricular activities. • Are open to spiritual growth and development. The following are our general admissions standards: • Grades ranging from B’s to A’s • Excellent behavioral, attendance, and punctuality records • Strong recommendations from teacher and principal • Scores at or above grade level on Scholarship/Placement Exam APPLICATION PROCESS for the 2021-2022 SCHOOL YEAR Apply online (preferred method): www.holynames-sea.org • go to ADMISSIONS INCOMING 9th GRADERS: 1. Attend a virtual HNA Open House. Attending an Open House is optional. 2. Connect with an HNA Student. For more information go to www.admissions@holynames- sea.org. 3. If financial assistance is sought, complete a financial-aid application no later than Thursday, December 31, 2020. This must be done online; see pages 6–8 for instructions. There is a non- refundable $51 application fee. 4. Complete the Student Application for Admission no later than Wednesday, January 6, 2021. You can do this online at www.holynames-sea.org/admissions, or submit an application to HNA via mail or in person. Either method requires a non-refundable application fee of $35. 5. Submit the Confidential Teacher Evaluation Form to your current teacher. Ask him/her to complete the form and forward it directly to HNA. NOTE: This is a common form used by several Seattle-area Catholic high schools and may be photocopied for multiple use. 3 6. Submit the Confidential School Report/Transcript Request to your current principal. Ask him/her to complete the form and forward it directly to HNA. In addition, your principal should forward directly to HNA a copy of the following: • Official transcript/permanent record • Standardized test scores from within the past two years (in lieu of your taking the HNA Admissions Exam) • Report cards from the preceding two years • Grades/progress reports from the current year TRANSFER STUDENTS: The admissions process for transfer students is the same as for incoming 9th graders (see above). Applicants for the 10th grade are required to take the Scholarship/Placement Exam. Applicants for the 11th and 12th grades are not required to take the exam but must include their most recent standardized exam scores with their application. If standardized test scores are not available, you may register for the Holy Names Academy Admissions Exam at www.holynames- sea.org/admissions/application-process/. A limited number of spaces are available. SCHOLARSHIPS Holy Names Academy seeks to recognize young women who are academically outstanding. One-time and renewable scholarships alike are based on academic merit, as shown by the student’s grades, her scores on standardized tests or the HNA Scholarship/Placement Exam, teacher evaluation, school report, and application to HNA. No separate application for a scholarship is required. Students will receive notification of scholarships along with acceptance notification in February 2021. To qualify for a scholarship, a student must take the HNA Scholarship/Placement Exam and complete her admissions file at HNA by the application due date, Wednesday, January 6, 2021. TUITION AND FEES The tuition and fee schedules approved by the Holy Names Academy Board of Trustees for the 2020–2021 academic year are listed below. The tuition and fee schedule for the 2021–2022 academic year will reflect a modest increase over these amounts: Application Fee $ 35 Non-refundable Registration Fee $ 550 Non-refundable 4 Tuition $18,864 Per student (in 2020-2021) Late Fee $ 45 Per month for each payment received after the 5th of the month TUITION PAYMENT PLANS At the time of registration, parents will choose one of the following four tuition-payment schedules: • Monthly for 12 months, beginning May 1 and continuing through April 1 • Quarterly on May 1, August 1, November 1, and February 1 • Semi-annually on May 1 and November 1 • Annually on May 1 The first tuition payment at any level of frequency (monthly, quarterly, semi-annually, or annually) is due on May 1. ADDITIONAL FEES (2020-2021) For print books, some used books are available (be sure to buy the correct edition). The school conducts an Books $420-575 online book sale during the summer. Students must purchase their textbooks before the academic year begins. Cover specialized materials or supplies required for Class Fees Vary certain courses. Due on or before July 1. $160 (Grades 9-11) Covers yearbook, ASB card, class retreats, Student Activity Fee $320 (Grade 12) testing fees, organizer, handbook, directory, etc. Does not include class fees. Private Music Lessons (optional) $600 Per semester. Group Music Lessons (optional) $500 FINANCIAL AID An important part of the mission of Holy Names Academy is to serve students from a variety of socio- economic backgrounds. For the2020-2021 school year, $1,950,000 in financial-aid funds are available to Holy Names Academy families. Currently, 39.5% of enrolled students receive some level of need-based aid. Financial aid is awarded both directly from Holy Names Academy and via the Academy from the Fulcrum Foundation of the Archdiocese of Seattle. Financial aid may include a Holy Names Academy grant, an endowed scholarship, a student work-study assignment, or a Fulcrum Foundation grant. Incoming 9th-grade students may anticipate confirmation of financial-aid awards in mid-February.
