I’m Harry Foley and I will always be beholden to SCC. I was recruited to SCC at the annual Farmers and Merchants Exposition at the Dial Gray Tobacco Warehouse in the late 1960’s. I took one course in the old Quonset hut across from the old Chadbourn High School and I was hooked on SCC. I resigned from my job at a local manufacturing plant and 3 months later I was a bona fide college student. Six months later I was broke and needed money. I was awarded $150.00 of financial aid and got a work-study job in the regis- trar’s office.

The $150.00 of financial aid allowed me to stay in college, and while I did not set the world on fire aca- Harry Foley demically at SCC due to extracurricular activities, the caring, dedicated faculty at Southeastern gave me an educational foundation. This allowed me to succeed in my future endeavors including getting a BS in Edu- cation and a Master’s Degree in Community College Administration. I was fortunate to be able to return to SCC after a working in public and private education. Hired in 1974 as an instructor I rose through the %RDUG&HUWL¿HGE\$PHULFDQ%RDUGRI6XUJHU\ P.O. Box 151, Whiteville, NC 28472 ranks, including chief cook and dishwasher and retired in 2002 as VP of the Continuing Education Division. My service to SCC did not stop with retirement and will never stop. !"#$%"#&"&'($)"&#)*#+%*,'&'-.#"/("00"-)#12%.'($0#($%"#$-&#$%"# +%*2&#)*#(*-)'-2"#1"%,'-.#)3"#(')'4"-1#*5#6*027821#$-&# As a member of the Board of Trustees and the SCC Foundation Board I encourage you to sup- port SCC by making a donation during the Foundations annual fund drive. The county commissioners will consider a set of numbers tonight on the pros and cons of merging the county and city schools systems. Merging both systems has been contemplated for decades, but not until this year has it gained much trac- tion because of both school systems’ building needs and a shortfall in county school monies, possibly due to a miscalculation of local funding.
