The 2011 Regulations for Student Dress Code at King Mongkut’s University of Technology North Bangkok ------The identity, prestige and dignity of students at King Mongkut’s University of Technology North Bangkok are represented by King Mongkut’s signature and seal granted to the university by His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej, the present King. The university also became a government tertiary education institution according to the 2007 Act of King Mongkut’s University of Technology North Bangkok. Considering the unique features and the proposition in section 22 (2) and section 65 of the 2007 Act of King Mongkut’s University of Technology North Bangkok in conjunction with the resolution of the university council in the meeting no. 5/2011 on 22 July 2010, the university then enacts the following regulations: Item 1 These regulations are called “the 2011 Regulations for Student Dress Code at King Mongkut’s University of Technology North Bangkok Item 2 These regulations are effective on the next day after the official announcement by the university. Item 3 The 2004 Regulations of King Mongkut’s University of Technology North Bangkok on Student Discipline are, henceforth, annulled. These regulations also replace any other rules and regulations that contradict it. Item 4 In these regulations, the following terms of reference are used: “University” refers to King Mongkut’s University of Technology North Bangkok. “Faculty” refers to the organization as stated in the 2009 Announcement of King Mongkut’s University of Technology North Bangkok about the establishment of the learning and teaching organizations at King Mongkut’s University of Technology North Bangkok. “President” refers to the President of King Mongkut’s University of Technology North Bangkok. “Students” refers to the students of King Mongkut’s University of Technology North Bangkok. “Full-time student curricula” refers to the curricula the university council approves to organize courses during the government office hours at the undergraduate level and the degree that will be granted after graduation within the specified period of education. “Part-time student curricula” refers to the curricula the university council approves to organize courses after government office hours (evening schedule) at the undergraduate level and the degree that will be granted after graduation within the specified period of education.

“Ceremony” refers to the ceremonies the university or other organizations arrange to celebrate special events or festivals, but which are not considered to be official government or royal ceremonies. “Royal ceremony” refers to a traditional royal ceremony that is commemorated regularly each year. “Government ceremony” refers to a traditional ceremony regularly held by the government. “Being polite” refers to the quality of being neat, polite and conducting oneself with propriety, in accordance with university regulations for student discipline and/or traditional requirements Item 5 According to these regulations, the President is responsible for supervision and holds the authority to issue or state additional principles in enforcing the regulations. In the event that problems arise in considering or interpreting these regulations, the President will be the only authorized person to make the final judgment. His or her judgment is thus considered final. Section 1 General Section Item 6 Regarding student uniforms, emblems and clothing, these regulations apply to students who are studying at the undergraduate level in any full-time student programs. However, undergraduate students who are studying in the part-time student programs may wear these student uniforms, emblems and clothing or dress politely and appropriately. Item 7 The wearing of student uniforms, emblems and clothing which is different from those stated in this regulation will be announced by the university or the faculty on a case-by-case basis.

Section 2 Student Dress Code

Item 8 The students of King Mongkut’s University of Technology North Bangkok should wear uniform appropriate to the occasion as defined below: (1) The Class uniform should be worn for regular classes and examination periods, during university office hours and when contacting the university. (2) The Workshop uniform should be worn for workshop sessions, in laboratories and machine shops. The sports uniform should be worn for physical education classes. (3) The ceremonial uniform should be worn for official ceremonies or when announced by the university.

Item 9 The following is the dress code for male students: (1) The hairstyle: this should be simple, length not extending beyond the shirt , and not dyed with an unnatural-looking color. (2) The shirt: this should have a collar with pointed tips, above elbow-length, short sleeves (with uncut hems) or wrist-length long sleeves. It should be white in color and plain, with no patterns. It should be fairly thick and fastened at the front by six buttons. It should be longer than the waist and the shirt tail should be tucked into the trousers. (3) The : this should have the university emblem on it. Its , color and size should comply with university regulations. (4) The trousers: these should be black or navy blue, with a western-style shape. They should not be tight-fitting and there should not be pleats. They should be fastened at the front by a zipper. The trouser legs should be ankle-length, without folded hems. The belt loops should be made from the same kind of material as the trousers and be the same color. The shirt tail should be tucked into the trousers. (Denim jeans are not allowed.) (5) The belt: this should be black and have a metal buckle. The buckle style should comply with university regulations. (6) The shoes: these should be plain black or dark brown. They should not be open-toed or open-heeled shoes. (7) The socks: these should be plain black, dark brown or white.

Item 10 The following is the dress code for female students: (1) The hairstyle: this should be simple, and not dyed with an unnatural-looking color. (2) The head scarf: this should be plain white without any patterns. It should be fairly thick and clipped on the left with the university pin.

(3) The shirt: this should be fairly thick and plain white with no patterns. It should have a collar with pointed tips and above elbow-length short sleeves (with uncut hems). The sleeve edge should be folded over and sewn to the outside of the sleeve to form facings. There should also be middle facings on the back of the shirt. The shirt should not be tight-fitting and should be fastened at the front by five buttons. The front facings at the edges of the shirt should be 30 millimeters wide. The shirt should be longer than the waist and the shirt ends should be tucked into the skirt. (4) The skirt: this should be plain black or navy blue, with no patterns. It should be knee- length with a simple design. (Denim skirts are not allowed.) (5) The buttons: these should be made of -colored metal and be 17 millimeters in diameter. The button style should comply with university regulations. (6) The university pin: this should be in the shape of the Royal , in the design of the university emblem. It should be made of silver-colored metal, 23 millimeters in width and 30 millimeters in height. The pin style should comply with the university regulations. It should be worn on the front left of the shirt. (7) The belt: this should be black and have a metal buckle. The buckle style should comply with the university regulations. (8) The shoes: these should be black, brown or white with a simple style. They should cover the heel or be fitted with a heel strap.

Section 3 Student dress code for Workshop or for Physical Education Classes Item 11 The clothing for male students in the workshop includes: (1) Hairstyle, as described in item 9 (1) (2) Shirt: Use the Hawaiian collar shirt with short sleeves above the elbow and no splits at the end of sleeves. The shirt is made of thick cloth and meets at the hips. The university emblem is embroidered on the right chest: only the crown of the emblem is embroidered with orange-colored silk. Under the embroidered emblem the university name, King Mongkut’s University of Technology North Bangkok, is displayed, followed by the name of the faculty where students are enrolled. There are also three pleated pockets on the shirt: one on the upper left and the other two on the lower right and left. On the back of the shirt, there are double pleats on both sides with a long waistband sewn over the pleats. (Any other designs not approved by the university are prohibited on the shirt.) The shirt should be neatly worn and always buttoned up. If wearing a T-shirt inside, the T-shirt needs to be plain white without patterns. (3) Trousers, as described in item 9 (4) are worn. Dressing neatly is essential. (4) Belt , as described in item 9 (5) is worn.

(5) Shoes : Leather shoes or clean sneakers with blue, brown or black socks is worn. Item 12 The clothing of female students in the workshop includes: (1) Hairstyle, as described in item 10 (1) (2) Shirt, as described in item 11 (2) The shirt should be neatly worn and always buttoned up. (3) Skirt or trousers : Wearing workshop clothing appropriately as indicated by the faculty. Dressing neatly is essential. (All jeans are prohibited). (4) Belt, as described in item 10 (7) (5) Shoes : Leather shoes, clean sneakers or shoes as described in item 10 (8) are worn. Item 13 The clothing of female and male students in physical education classes is described as follows: (1) Hairstyle, as described in item 9 (1) and item 10 (1) (2) Polo shirt : A collared polo shirt with short sleeves above the elbow is worn. The shirt is made of thick, stretchable cloth. The style and color of the shirt are in accordance with the university instructions. The polo shirt should always be tucked inside the trousers. (3) Trousers : Full-length trousers made of stretchable or canvas cloth are worn. The style and color of the trousers are in accordance with the university instructions. (4) Shoes : Leather shoes or clean sneakers with blue, brown or black socks are worn.

Section 4 Student dress code for ceremonies, royal ceremonies or government ceremonies. Item 14 male and female students of the university who participate in ceremonies of the university should dress according to the rules of the university as described in items 9 or i10, on a case-by-case basis. Item 15 Dress code for students at royal or governmental ceremonies is described below. (1) Male students’ clothing: a. Hairstyle, as described in item 9 (1) b. Shirt : The official government uniform with white long-sleeved jacket, is worn for ceremonies or official ceremonies as detailed below. (1) Male student

1.1 Hair: Hair as described in item 9(1) 1.2 Jacket: The official white jacket with long sleeves should be worn. 1.3 Collar pin: A collar pin made of -colored metal representing the university logo is worn to hold down both sides of the collar. The width of the emblem on the collar pin is 18 millimeters and the height is 25 millimeters. 1.4 Buttons: Buttons are made of gold-colored metal, each with a diameter of 21 millimeters and the symbol 13 appears on only the grand tiara of 5 buttons. 1.5 Trousers: Trousers are formal white, the same material as the shirt, and not tight. The trouser hems cover the shoe heels. The trousers part at the front and trouser legs must not have folded hems at the edges. There is a pocket at each side of the seams. 1.6 Shoes: Plain, black leather shoes using shoe laces with no metal ends and black socks. (2) Female students 2.1 Hair: Hair as described in 10(1) 2.2 Shirt: Shirt as described in 10(3) with a button on the collar 2.3 Skirt: Plain navy blue skirt without pleats, of formal length which means covering the knees 2.4 Button : Button as described in 10(5) 2.5 University Pin: Pin as described in 10(6) 2.6 Belt: Belt as described in 10(7) 2.7 Shoes: Plain leather shoes with high or low heels and stockings
