  • Admissions Policy 2019-2020 Page 1
ADMISSIONS POLICY (2019 - 2020) Ysgol Bryn Elian Admissions Policy 2019-2020 Page 1 For admission in 2019/2020 This policy is drafted in accordance with the Welsh Assembly statutory guidance ‘School Admissions Code 005 / 2013’. Ysgol Bryn Elian will act in accordance with the School Admissions Code and the School Admissions Appeal Code when determining applications for admission to the School. In addition Ysgol Bryn Elian will, in its admissions arrangements, seek to work co-operatively with the Education Department of Conwy County Borough Council to secure school places for children in Conwy. Each school has an overall capacity which is calculated in accordance with the Welsh Government guidelines. The methods used are set out within the Welsh Government Circular 021/2011 - Measuring the Capacity of Schools in Wales. At Ysgol Bryn Elian, the overall capacity for the school has been calculated at 896 pupils. The overall capacity is in turn used to calculate the admission number, which will determine the maximum number of pupils that should be admitted to each year group. The admission number reflects the school’s ability to accommodate pupils and should therefore only be exceeded in exceptional circumstances. It would not be appropriate to exceed the admission number of a school where there are places available at a suitable alternative school which is within reasonable travelling distance of the pupil’s home address. The admission number for Year 7 at Ysgol Bryn Elian is 163. Application procedure Prospectuses and application forms for admission in September 2019 will be available from 10/9/18. Application forms will be provided to all primary schools listed later in this policy.

In January 2009, the Local Government Minister, Dr Brian Gibbons asked this Commission to review the electoral arrangements in each principal local authority in Wales. Dr Gibbons said: “Conducting regular reviews of the electoral arrangements in each Council in Wales is part of the Commission’s remit. The aim is to try and restore a fairly even spread of councillors across the local population. It is not about local government reorganisation. Since the last reviews were conducted new communities have been created in some areas and there have been shifts in population in others. This means that in some areas there is now an imbalance in the number of electors that councillors represent.

  • GCSE 2015 / PISA Bulletin
GwE ~ GCSE 2015 / PISA initiative Bulletin: March 2015 (4) GCSE 2015 / PISA Bulletin Introduction In preparation for the introduction of new GCSEs in Welsh First Language, English and Maths in September 2015 (and Science in 2016), Welsh Government invited the four regional Consortia to apply for funding. GwE’s application was successful and funding was confirmed for the financial years 2014-15 and 2015-16. This is the fourth GwE ‘GCSE 2015 / PISA’ bulletin to keep schools informed of the developments to date and future developments in relation to the ‘GSCE 2015 / PISA’ project together with other related developments. Developments to date The ‘Lead Schools’ for the region in the four core subjects are: • English: Ysgol Bryn Elian ( Lead Practitioner: Louise Wallace) • Mathematics: Ysgol Eirias ( Lead Practitioner: Zoe Evans) • Welsh: Gwynedd Cluster (Ysgol Botwnnog/Ysgol Tryfan/Ysgol Dyffryn Ogwen) ( Lead Practitioners: Tegwen Llwyd / Esyllt Maelor / Cheryl Roberts / Jeni Lyn Morris / Dafydd Roberts) • Science: Ysgol yr Alun ( Lead Practitioner: Andy Rees) To ensure Maths and Science materials are fully bilingual and that they have a Welsh dimension, Ysgol Glan Clwyd is working with Ysgol Eirias with regard to Maths, whilst Anglesey schools are working with Ysgol Alun with regard to Science. The first ‘wave’ workshops for GCSE Welsh, English and Maths took place in February. Feedback received was very positive and comments made by those who attended were very appreciative of the training and the resources produced by the ‘Lead Schools’. 1 GwE ~ GCSE 2015 / PISA initiative Bulletin: March 2015 (4) The attendance at the workshops was excellent - a few of the schools were unable to attend for valid reasons.
