To conceal any faults and to obtain a better finish on the hull, use the dark sapele 0.6x4mm battens 20 to apply the second and final plating of the 6hull, leaving a gap for the 21 and for the 22 (see Step 8) To plate the upper part of the hull, use the 0.6x4mm light basswood battens 23. Once the hull has been plated, apply the second plating on the hull, using contact glue and starting at the with the 0.6x4mm light batten 7basswood 23, continuing with the dark 0.6x4mm sapele battens 20. Fill any small gaps in the stern with wooden wedges made from the spare pieces of dark sapele batten. Trim any pieces of batten that protrude to make them flush with the hull. Gently sand down the entire hull with a very fine-grain sandpaper. Fit and then glue first the stem 21 and then the keel 22, inside the groove. No 8groove is necessary for the sternpost 24, which is glued onto the plates of the second plating. Apply colourless matt finish varnish throughout. See General Tips that comes with Part 1 for guidance on how to apply this.

Glue the two 2x2mm walnut battens forming the rubbing strakes 25, one on each side of the close to where the light basswood batten 23 and 9the dark sapele batten 20 meet. Bend them onto the , after they have been dampened in warm water for a few minutes to make them more pliable, or you can use the Artesanía Latina plank bender. Then glue the side gunwale covers 26 onto both sides of the boat, so that the pieces fit perfectly onto the exterior of the hull. Staining rubbing strakes and gunwale covers. With a mixture of bitumen and 40 per cent solvent, stain the rubbing strakes 25 and the side gunwale covers 26, taking care not to stain the rest 10 of the hull. When dry, line the stern thwart 16 and the bow 15 with the light 0.6x4mm basswood battens 23.

Fit the dark 2x3mm sapele batten to make the boarding amidships 27 in the centre of the longboat.
