Within the framework of the European Employment Strategy, the project will test and implement a provincial action plan aimed at optimising experience and interventions already existing or foreseen. This will be done through mainstreaming employment policies in all the local strategies and the evaluation of their added value in terms of job creation. The plan sets out proposals for employment development, in line with other policies such as economic development, environment, culture, education, welfare and innovation. Interested parties will be involved throughout the entire process.

Objectives • To implement European, national and regional employment strategies in a local context • To create local employment networks among all public and private entities • To increase the province’s employment potential in all economic sectors through an optimal matching between job supply and demand • To foster synergies between different economic sectors to reach an integrated approach for local planning • To promote equal opportunities throughout the province Methodology and actions • Analysing local employment as the starting point and basis for the comparison of data and monitoring/evaluation of actions and results. Data will be collected through a Geographical Information System. • Identifying new areas with employment potential • Defining a methodology to develop and evaluate actions to promote employment • Improving the employment potential for women • Developing and implementing new training methods • Disseminating good practices

Results • A Provincial Employment Action Plan for 2003 and for 2004 • An innovative network model • An optimised matching between job supply and demand • A higher number of quality jobs • An increased employment rate for women • A higher overall employment rate • A website portal • Seminars and conferences
