German Márquez tied a modern Major League record (since 1900) by striking out the first eight batters of the game (also: Jim Deshaies, Sept. 23, 1986 vs. Los Angeles-NL and Jacob deGrom, Sept. 15, 2014 vs. Miami) … the MLB record for strikeouts to begin a game is nine, set by Mickey Welch, Aug. 28, 1884 … the previous Rockies record to begin a game was five (Jon Gray, June 5, 2016 at San Diego and Bruce Ruffin, June 13, 1993 vs. Houston) … the eight straight strikeouts were also a franchise record for consecutive strikeouts in a single game and tied the franchise record for strikeouts vs. consecutive batters faced (Justin Miller, three game span, Sept. 7-11, 2015). Márquez now has 221 strikeouts this season, a new single-season franchise record (previous: Ubaldo Jimenez, 214, 2010) … recorded his 12th consecutive quality start, tied with Ubaldo Jimenez (2009) for the second-longest, single-season streak in franchise history (longest: 15, Jimenez, April 5-June 17, 2010) … is 6-2 with a 2.16 ERA (83.1 IP, 20 ER), 15 walks and 109 strikeouts over that span … has seven straight quality starts at home since July 11, going 4-1 with a 1.90 ERA (47.1 IP, 10 ER), 10 walks and 68 strikeouts. David Dahl hit his 13th home run of the season, a three-run home run with two outs in the fifth inning … has homered in a career- high three consecutive games … is batting .309 (21-for-68) with six home runs and 21 RBI in September. Ian Desmond hit his 21st home run of the season, his first since hitting a walk-off home run Aug. 23 vs. San Diego … it was his third home run since the All-Star break. Nick Pivetta allowed six runs on six hits with three walks and three strikeouts in 4.2 innings pitched … is 0-5 (Phillies 1-8) with a 5.48 ERA (44.1 IP, 27 ER) over his last nine starts.
