The theme of this year’s event was the presidential election of 1912. Woodrow Wilson won the Democratic primary and then sitting President William Howard Taft beat out ex-president Theodore Roosevelt (1901 – 1909) for the Republican primary nomination. Not the kind of person to give up without a fight, Roosevelt and his support group formed the Progressive or “Bull Moose” party. Since the Republican vote was split between Taft and Roosevelt, Wilson easily won the general election that year. The fundraising event, which featured costumed characters representing Theodore and Edith Roosevelt, William Howard and Helen Taft and Woodrow and Edith Wilson, raised money to support ongoing programs and other expenses at the Historical Museum. On Wednesday, October 26, the Historical Society will feature “The Election of 1924,” presented by long- time Glen Cove resident and historian Dr. Millie DeRiggi. During that year’s presidential campaign, Lattingtown resident John W. Davis was nominated as the Democratic candidate on a record- breaking 103rd ballot. The admission fee is $10 ($5 for Museum members). Light refreshments will be served. The North Shore Historical Museum is located at 140 Glen Street in Glen Cove. Visit northshorehistoricalmuseum. Don’t think of them as traff ic cones. But as part of a $500 million improvement plan.

We know our crews make getting around a hassle now and then. But all that work is a sign of our investment creating the most reliable electric system possible right here on Long Island. So not only will we respond to downed power lines faster, we’ll be able to prevent many outages before they occur. The cones will soon be gone—the improvements will be here for years to come.
