FLYERS VS. EDMONTON This is the first of two meetings between the Oilers and Flyers this season. The Flyers will visit Edmonton on December 6.

2016-17 RECAPS Thursday, December 8, 2016 - Flyers 6, Edmonton 5 at Wells Fargo Center: Michael Raffl scored with 1:29 remaining to give the Flyers a win unlike any other in their history, as they came from two goals down twice to defeat the Oilers – the first time they’d won a game under those circumstances. Edmonton took a two-goal lead on goals by Leon Draisaitl 4:39 into the game and Connor McDavid 4:35 into the second period (PP). The Flyers flipped the score by tallying three times in 72 seconds – started the run with 7:29 left in the second, followed by Pierre-Edouard Bellemare 53 seconds later and Claude Giroux 19 seconds after that. The Oilers tied it back up on a shorthanded goal by Andrej Sekera with 3:45 left in the second, and restored the two-goal advantage with goals from Benoit Pouliot 3:07 into the third period and Oscar Klefbom on a power play 5:12 into the final frame. Jake Voracek started the second comeback 1:19 later with a power play tally, and Giroux tied the contest with his second of the night with 7:49 remaining. LAST GAME Thursday, October 19, 2017 - Nashville 1, Flyers 0 at Wells Fargo Center: Colton Sissons scored what would end up being the game’s only goal 3:49 into the third period to lift the Predators past the Flyers. The Preds shut down five Flyer power-play opportunities, including a late 6-on-4 situation that spanned the final 1:06 of the game. Pekka Rinne made 28 saves to hold down the fort for Nashville, which placed 24 shots on Flyers goaltender Michal Neuvirth. Stars of the Game: 1 – Pekka Rinne; 2 – Colton Sissions; 3 – Travis Sanheim.

NOTABLES The game marked the 35th 1-0 regulation loss in Flyers history. The most recent occasion was March 25, 2017 in Columbus; the last one at home was on March 31, 2011 vs. Atlanta.

The 1-0 loss came exactly 50 years to the day the Flyers picked up a 1-0 win over Pittsburgh in their first-ever home game on Oct. 19, 1967 at the .

This is the first season the Flyers have lost two games in regulation to Nashville since the franchise’s inception in 1998, and only the second time the Flyers have not earned at least a point in the season series against the Predators. The other occasion was when they lost the only meeting between the teams in 2006-07.

ED SNIDER STATUE The Flyers and Spectacor on Thursday honored their late founder and former Chairman, , with a dedication and unveiling of a commemorative nine-foot-tall, bronze statue outside of the Wells Fargo Center.

Custom created and built by Chad Fisher, of Fisher Sculpture of Dillsburg, PA, the nine-foot tall, 1,300-pound bronze statue stands on a three-foot base encased by solid granite. The process, which took eight months from start to finish, began in the Archives office of the Wells Fargo Center where Fisher selected photos of Snider to base his design. Fisher met with members of the Snider Family and executives to agree on the proper layout.

Mr. Snider, who succumbed to cancer on April 11, 2016, transformed sports in the city when he mortgaged his home in 1966 to establish a franchise in Philadelphia. Mr. Snider became the driving force behind the Spectrum, Philadelphia’s iconic arena and home to the Flyers and National Basketball Association’s Philadelphia 76ers. Three decades later, he worked with city government, the Philadelphia business community, and later partnered with Comcast to create the Wells Fargo Center, which opened in 1996.

NOTES OF THE NIGHT

Valtteri Filppula was 8-for-11 in the faceoff circle (73 pct) on Thursday night vs. Nashville. Filppula was in a rare situation on Tuesday where he lost a faceoff to Florida’s Nick Bjugstad, but was credited with a goal on the play when Bjugstad won the draw more than 100 feet straight into his own open net. The Flyers have three players that are better than 50 percent on faceoffs while having taken at least 70 of them – Claude Giroux (54.9 pct), Filppula (51.4 pct) and Sean Couturier (51.2 pct). led the Flyers with an 8-for-11 night in the faceoff circle (73 pct). As a team, the Flyers are exactly 50 percent on faceoffs – 216 won and 216 lost.

Shayne Gostisbehere played a career-high 25:23 on Thursday. It was just his third career game over 25 minutes. Gostisbehere is averaging 21:54 per game, which is second on the Flyers behind only Ivan Provorov. His 10 points on the season (1G, 9A) tie him with Jake Voracek for the team lead. Gostisbehere and Voracek are among a handful of players with 10 points on the year, four off the league lead. Six of Gostisbehere’s assists have come on the power play, and they’ve helped set up all but one of the seven power play goals the Flyers have scored this season.

Gostisbehere is approaching his 100th career point. He would become just the 25th Flyers defenseman to do so. He has averaged 0.64 points per game over his 145-game career, which ties him for the third highest scoring average in team history by a defenseman who’s played more than 100 games for the club.

Despite his 1-2 record, Michal Neuvirth has a 1.36 GAA and a .957 save percentage in his three appearances, and has allowed just four goals in those three games. Both of his losses have been shutouts by the opponent. Through Thursday’s games, Neuvirth led the league in both save percentage and goals-against average among who have played more than one game.

Despite being shut out twice so far this season, the Flyers still ranked fourth in the NHL through the end of Thurdsay’s action with 3.71 goals per game. They were tied for fifth in the NHL with 2.43 goals allowed per game.

Claude Giroux became just the fourth player in Flyers history to record 400 assists with the team when he set up a first-period goal by Sean Couturier on Tuesday vs. Florida. Giroux joins Bob Clarke (852), Brian Propp (480) and Bill Barber (463) atop the list. Giroux has recorded 176 of his assists in power-play situations, which ties him with Barber for second-most in franchise history; with his next PP assist, he will sit behind only Clarke (230) in that category.

Giroux has started sixth season as the of the Flyers. He is the first Flyer to start a sixth season as captain since Eric Lindros, who was the captain from 1994-2000, and has played more games as captain than anyone in team history other than Bobby Clarke. Giroux appeared in all 82 games last season, doing so for the fourth time in his career. He has missed just 10 regular season games since the start of the 2009-10 season. Since the start of the 2011-12 season, Giroux ranks third in scoring in the NHL behind only Patrick Kane and .

The Flyers have missed 77 shots this season, which is tied for ninth-fewest in the NHL. Last year the Flyers had the sixth-most missed shots in the NHL at the end of the season.
