  • Bamcinématek Presents Joe Dante at the Movies, 18 Days of 40 Genre-Busting Films, Aug 5—24
BAMcinématek presents Joe Dante at the Movies, 18 days of 40 genre-busting films, Aug 5—24 “One of the undisputed masters of modern genre cinema.” —Tom Huddleston, Time Out London Dante to appear in person at select screenings Aug 5—Aug 7 The Wall Street Journal is the title sponsor for BAMcinématek and BAM Rose Cinemas. Jul 18, 2016/Brooklyn, NY—From Friday, August 5, through Wednesday, August 24, BAMcinématek presents Joe Dante at the Movies, a sprawling collection of Dante’s essential film and television work along with offbeat favorites hand-picked by the director. Additionally, Dante will appear in person at the August 5 screening of Gremlins (1984), August 6 screening of Matinee (1990), and the August 7 free screening of rarely seen The Movie Orgy (1968). Original and unapologetically entertaining, the films of Joe Dante both celebrate and skewer American culture. Dante got his start working for Roger Corman, and an appreciation for unpretentious, low-budget ingenuity runs throughout his films. The series kicks off with the essential box-office sensation Gremlins (1984—Aug 5, 8 & 20), with Zach Galligan and Phoebe Cates. Billy (Galligan) finds out the hard way what happens when you feed a Mogwai after midnight and mini terrors take over his all-American town. Continuing the necessary viewing is the “uninhibited and uproarious monster bash,” (Michael Sragow, New Yorker) Gremlins 2: The New Batch (1990—Aug 6 & 20). Dante’s sequel to his commercial hit plays like a spoof of the original, with occasional bursts of horror and celebrity cameos. In The Howling (1981), a news anchor finds herself the target of a shape-shifting serial killer in Dante’s take on the werewolf genre.

Worth Washington D.C., Boston, Atlanta, Seattle, Detroit & Denver PRESS CONTACT Michael Krause | Foundry Communications (212) 586-7967 | [email protected] Synopsis Not even the vibrant streets of the Bronx can contain Goldie (Slick Woods), a street- wise 18-year-old whose intoxicating dreams of fame – and the better life she believes it will bring for herself and her family – are all but contagious. But it’s only when Goldie’s dreams collide with the harsh realities of her world that she discovers her true strength in writer/director Sam de Jong’s bittersweet coming-of-age story. Though she may live in a shelter, sharing a single room with her mother, Carol (Marsha Stephanie Blake), her partner Frank (Danny Hoch) and kid-sisters Sherrie, 8, and Supreme, 12 (Alanna Renee Tyler-Tompkins and Jazmyn C. Dorsey), Goldie’s dream of a better life is not only palatable, but seems to sustain those closest to her. An enthusiastic dancer who enjoys performing on the community center’s makeshift stage, she is offered a chance by the well-connected Jay (Khris Davis) to submit an audition tape to local-legend, Tiny (A$AP Ferg), a rapper planning to shoot a music video that weekend. Inspired by the prospect, bristling with attitude and a winsome gap-toothed style all her own (and now pocketing $300 she’s lifted from the shady, Frank), Goldie’s plan is simple – get the additional $300 needed to purchase the canary yellow fur coat on display at a local store to complete her look for her screen debut, and fulfill her destiny.

IMTA ALUM HALEY BENNETT RESURRECTS HARDCORE HENRY IMTA Press Release April 7, 2016 Hardcore Henry opens nationwide Friday, April 8th “Hardcore Henry is basically a mix of Jason Bourne, Captain America and Call of Duty.” – Engadget.com For IMTA alum Haley Bennett, 2016 looks to be her breakout year. Since her screen debut in 2007’s Music and Lyrics as a teen singing sensation, her star has been steadily rising with significant roles in successes such as Marley & Me and The Equalizer. Now, with no less than seven different high-profile projects currently in the works or scheduled for release this year, Bennett—who came to IMTA with Pro Model & Talent in Akron, OH— will have ample opportunities to have audiences and critics take notice. The first of Bennett’s films to hit the screens in 2016 is the highly anticipated sci-fi action adventure Hardcore Henry, which opens Friday. The film was shot entirely from the point of view of the title character Henry, who has been brought back from the edge of death by his wife (Bennett) and has no memory of a past life. Suddenly, his wife has been kidnapped by a warlord bent on world domination and Henry must not only fight to get her back, but also try to recover the truth about his past life. Sharlto Copley, Danila Kozlovsky and Tim Roth also star in the R rated film, which was selected by the SXSW Film Festival as a premiere headliner. A Kind of Murder will debut later this month at the Tribeca Film Festival.
