The new ser- vices available in the neighbourhood have improved the quality of life of residents, and revitalised a poor district of Santa Coloma de Gra- menet Catalunia. In short, the project has generated better economic, social and environmental conditions in the area, improving the quality of life of residents in four neighbourhoods.

INNOCAMARAS ERDF: EUR 29 206 490 - Sector : SME innovation, research and development All Spanish regions are participating in this project which promotes joined-up innovation policies at EU, national and regional level that recognise the bottom-up, demand-driven nature of the process. The project is promoting the importance of innovation as a broad process of converting ideas into action, which is crucial to the survival and pros- perity of businesses, especially small and medium-sized enterprises, and to the growth and competitiveness of the economy as a whole. The companies, their products and their objectives are diverse, ranging from an interactive, play approach to ensuring the right pronunciation of English for schoolchildren (Colour Trick), a start-up with an applica- tion to facilitate finding parking spaces (Parkapp), a multi-purpose light for cyclists, prams and wheelchairs to make them more visible (Lilight), to a small health food store that was able to expand into a number of eco-supermarkets across several regions in Spain. PICSA ERDF: EUR 132 800 000 - Andalusia - 12/2015 - Sector: sustainable growth, energy efficiency, employment, energy poverty The Sustainable Construction Programme in Andalusia, Spain, is using energy saving and renewable energy to promote the energy refur- bishment of buildings, thereby rehabilitating urban areas. As a result, the competitiveness of companies in the construction sector has im- proved. These companies create skilled employment in a part of Spain largely affected by unemployment, and energy poverty in the region has been significantly reduced.

PLOCAN - PLATAFORMA OCEÁNICA DE CANARIAS ERDF: EUR 8 345 854 - 12/2016 - Sector: research and development The main aim of PLOCAN and, in particular, the new platform, is to provide a stable base for operations which will support the develop- ment of maritime technologies. A special area of interest for PLOCAN is the support to research projects and SMEs to cover the gap be- tween research and commercialisation. Because of its location and facilities, it is most suited to the final development of prototypes and pre-series equipment. By offering affordable testing facilities as well as research and administrative advice, PLOCAN is both accelerating and facilitating the progress of new technologies and their introduc- tion into the market. PLOCAN is an inshore operations base and an offshore platform, providing office space, workshops, a barometric chamber, specialist maritime equipment and facilities for communi- cation, testing and teaching.
