Faith schools The faith schools in Sutton are St Philomena’s Catholic High School for Girls and The John Fisher School. Places these schools were allocated based on religious commitment and practice. If you wish to request more information on how your application was considered you should contact the school directly. 2. Questions and Answers Q. I have been offered a school place, what do I do now? A. If you do not wish to accept this place, you need to let us know as soon as possible but definitely by 16 March 2020 so that we can give the place to someone else. You must also reply by 16 March 2020 and let us know if you wish to accept. If you applied online please update your online application, if you received a letter please return the reply slip to the address stated. Failure to reply may result in your offer being withdrawn and the place being offered to another child. If you decline the offer of a school place it will become your responsibility to secure an alternative school. Unless you already have an offer at an alternative school, we advise you to accept the offer that you have received until you get one at a school you prefer. Accepting an offer for a school that you might not want does not prejudice your waiting list position or appeals for any higher preference school. Q. Why have I been offered a school that I did not apply for? A. We are required to offer schools that still have vacancies to children that were not eligible for any of the schools that they had applied for. If you have received an offer for a school that you did not apply for, your child’s name will automatically go on the waiting list for each school that you named as a preference that they are eligible for. You also have the right of appeal. We would advise you to accept our offer whilst you wait to see if you receive an offer at one of your preference schools from the waiting list. Q. Why have I been offered a school that is further away from the schools I applied for? A. Some children, who were not eligible for any of the preference schools that they named on their application, have been offered a place at another school that had vacancies remaining after the initial allocation of places. It is possible that the school is further away than the other schools that you applied for. It is not always possible to offer all children their closest school. It is advisable to accept this offer whilst remaining on the waiting lists of preferred schools. Accepting this offer does not affect your waiting list position or any appeal you may make. Q. How will I know where I am on the waiting lists? A. Waiting list positions for Sutton schools will not be available until acceptance/decline slips have been returned and processed by the Admissions Team. This process often frees up places that can subsequently be offered to other children. Sutton schools will be able to give waiting list positions from 17 March 2020. You may contact the school from this date to enquire but please do not contact them before. For schools outside the London Borough of Sutton, you should contact the local authority in which the school is situated from 17 March 2020, though they may refer you on to the school. 3. • Overton Grange School on Behalf of the Overton Grange School, in the London Borough of Sutton
Determination Case reference: ADA3526 Objector: London Borough of Sutton Admission authority: The Governing Board for Overton Grange School on behalf of the Overton Grange School, in the London Borough of Sutton Date of decision: 4 October 2019 Determination In accordance with section 88H(4) of the School Standards and Framework Act 1998, I uphold the objection to the reduction in the PAN for September 2020 from 240 – 210 determined by the governing board of Overton Grange School for Overton Grange School, Sutton. I have also considered the arrangements in accordance with section 88I(5) and find there are other matters which do not conform to the requirements relating to admission arrangements in the ways set out in this determination. By virtue of section 88K(2) the adjudicator’s decision is binding on the admission authority. The School Admissions Code requires the admission authority to revise its admission arrangements within two months of the date of the determination. The school must increase its PAN to 240, and make revisions to the definition of ‘home address’ and Oversubscription criterion iii) within this timescale. The referral 1. Under section 88H(2) of the School Standards and Framework Act 1998, (the Act), an objection has been referred to the adjudicator by the London Borough of Sutton (the objector) about the admission arrangements (the arrangements) for Overton Grange School (the school), an academy school for pupils aged 11 – 18 for September 2020. The objection is to the arrangements for admission of pupils to Year 7 (Y7), and concerns a reduction in the published admission number (PAN) from 240 to 210.

  • The London Borough of Sutton Annual Report 2016/17 It Is a Real Pleasure to Present This Report at a Time When the Duke of Edinburgh’S Award in Sutton Is Thriving
The London Borough of Sutton Annual Report 2016/17 It is a real pleasure to present this report at a time when The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award in Sutton is thriving. As we move into a second year of a new licensing model, I’m delighted to report that opportunities for young people are significantly increasing. As you will see from the report, more young people than ever before are taking part in a DofE programme – nearly 1,700 young people started a DofE programme in Sutton this year. The number of young people going on to achieve an Award is also rising significantly – nearly 800 young people achieved an Award in Sutton; an increase of 73% on the previous year. The breadth of activities that young people are taking up, of their own choosing, is also impressive. We have seen them starting recycling projects, caring for animals, coaching younger children, volunteering at summer school, taking up new sports such as climbing and archery and travelling to new countries for their DofE Expedition and Residential. All of these activities have arisen from increasing opportunities for young people to do their DofE and it is important that we capitalise on the current momentum and huge desire that young people have to take part. My role is to ensure that young people have the opportunities to take part in a DofE programme – not just at the Bronze level, but also at the higher Silver and Gold levels. Where we have a desire by young people to undertake their DofE programme, I wish to ensure that any barriers to their participation are removed.

  • Newsletter 30 08/06/2018
Newsletter 30 08/06/2018 Dear Parents, We have begun the final half term as we mean to go on with an action-packed week! Please do keep an eye on the newsletters and dates list between now and 20th July as there is so much going on. We have had two amazing year group adventures this week, with Year 6 visiting the Houses of Parliament and Year 1 taking a trip to Windsor Castle as part of their Castles topic. Early on Wednesday morning Year 6 met at Epsom station to catch the 7.22 am train to Waterloo!! The children had a wonderful visit with a tour of the Pal- ace of Westminster, including a visit to both the House of Commons and the House of Lords and even a meeting with our local MP, Chris Grayling who took time out of his busy schedule to meet up with the group and answer some questions. Afterwards they took a walk through St James’ Park to see Buckingham Palace and even managed to catch the changing of the guard. All in all, a superb trip! Thank you to all the adults who got up extra early on Wednesday so the children could all have this marvellous opportunity to see the home of our democracy. On Thursday, our Year 1 children set off on a journey to Windsor Castle to find out about and explore a real castle, consolidating their knowledge of castles that they have been building over their topic so far. This is a regular trip and always one of the highlights for year 1 and this year was no exception.

  • Statement from the Partnership of Sutton Secondary Schools 20Th January 2014
Statement from the Partnership of Sutton Secondary Schools 20th January 2014 Secondary place planning and the need for a new secondary school in Sutton The Partnership of Sutton Secondary Schools notes that a phased increase in school places is required to meet local needs and that Sutton has been allocated £35m for school expansion between 2015 and 2017. The Partnership recognises that to help to meet the demand for school places in Sutton, a new secondary school will be required to open in September 2017, in addition to expansion at existing schools for 2015 and 2016. The Partnership notes that a new school would have to be a sponsored academy or free school, and that currently the only approved sponsor in the Partnership is Greenshaw. The Partnership would want any new school to be developed within the Partnership and believes that urgent action is required to ensure the school is open on time. All schools in the Partnership support Greenshaw High School Educational Trust as the sponsor of the new secondary school in Sutton, working within and with the support of the Partnership and with the Local Authority.
