Dr. Mohd Nor Azman Hassan is currently the Deputy Secretary General (Science) of the Ministry of Energy, Science, Technology, Environment and Climate Change. He oversees the policies and development of science, technology and innovation ecosystem to support the socio-economic development of the country. His previous positions were in the areas of higher education, policy and technological development including industrial related technologies such as renewable energy, advanced materials and manufacturing, biotechnology and nanotechnology. He had extensive engagements with the industry especially the SMEs, in particular to communicate government’s policies relating to STI. Dr. Azman holds a doctoral degree from Carnegie Mellon University, Pittsburgh, USA in the field of renewable energy technology and is trained in conducting Life Cycle Analysis (LCA). Dr Azman is also a registered Technologist with the Malaysian Board of Technologist. PROF. JACKIE Y. YING AIChe One Hundred Engineers of the Modern Era, US National Academy of Inventors, Mustafa Prize laureate Senior Fellow, National Bio Lab, Singapore; Bioengineering and Nanotechnology, NanoBio Lab & A*STAR Prof. Jackie Y. Ying received her B.E. from The Cooper Union and Ph.D. from Princeton University. She was Professor of Chemical Engineering of MIT (1992-2005), and Executive Director of Institute of Bioengineering and Nanotechnology in Singapore (2003-2018). She currently leads NanoBio Lab as A*STAR Senior Fellow. Her research is focused on nanomaterials design and synthesis for applications ranging from biosensors and diagnostics, nanomedicine and targeted delivery of drugs, cell culture substrates and biomaterials, in vitro toxicology and drug screening, pharmaceuticals and chemicals synthesis, to battery and fuel cells. Her work has been recognized with American Ceramic Society Purdy Award, David and Lucile Packard Fellowship, ONR and NSF Young Investigator Awards, Camille Dreyfus Teacher-Scholar Award, ACS Faculty Fellowship Award in Solid-State Chemistry, TR100 Young Innovator Award, AIChE Colburn Award, IUBMB Jubilee Medal, Mustafa Prize “Top Scientific Achievement Award”, Academy of Sciences of Iran Medal of Honor, IAS-COMSTECH Ibrahim Award, and Turkish Academy Prize in Science and Engineering Sciences. She is a Fellow of German National Academy of Sciences, MRS, RSC, AIMBE, AAAS, SNAS, IAS and U.S. National Academy of Inventors. She is Editor-in-Chief of Nano Today. PROF. DANIELA TRAINI Professor of Respiratory Science, NHMRC Investigator, The University of Sydney, Faculty of Medicine and Health and The Woolcock Institute of Medical Research. University of Sydney, Australia. Prof. Daniela Traini (previous ARTC Future Fellow 2012-2016) is a Professor of Respiratory Science at the Faculty of Medicine and Health, The University of Sydney, and a NHMRC Investigator (2020- 2024). Her research portfolio covers all areas of respiratory research from bench to bedside. Professor Traini leads the Respiratory Technology group at the Woolcock Institute for Medical Research. Professor Traini is an international leader in pulmonary drug delivery. Over the last 15 years since joining the University of Sydney, and before during her 5 years in industry, she had developed a leading research program on aerosol drug delivery, ranging from powder engineering, aerosol generation and characterisation in vitro to in vivo lung deposition and clinical outcomes. She has extensive experience in both academic and industrial pharmaceutics, and still retains strong link with the pharmaceutical industry. Since 2005 she has published over 220 full peer reviewed manuscripts, has 6 patents and has attracted more than $15 Millions in competitive funding. PROF. DR. TERUNA J. SIAHAAN Aya and Takeru Higuchi Distinguished Professor, Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry, School of Pharmacy, KU. University of Kansas, USA Prof. Dr. Teruna Siahaan is the Aya & Takeru Higuchi Distinguished Professor of Pharmaceutical Chemistry at The University of Kansas (KU) and a Fellow of the American Association of Pharmaceutical Scientists (AAPS). His research is focused on improving drug delivery to the brain and immune cells; he published 200 papers, obtained 12 patents, and edited two books. He serves as the Director, Center for Global Health, School of Pharmacy, KU; Associate Chair, Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry; and the Executive Board of Directors the Globalization Pharmaceutics Education Network (GPEN) Organization. He has received several honors and awards, including Self Faculty Scholar, KU; Pfizer Research Scholar Award; 2013 Mentor of the Year, KU; and 2014 PhRMA Foundation Award for Excellence in Pharmaceutics. ASSOC. PROF. GAIA COLOMBO Pharmaceutical Chemistry and Technology Section of Drug and Health Products, Department of Life Sciences and Biotechnology University of Ferrara, Italy Assoc. Prof. Gaia Colombo graduated in Pharmaceutical Chemistry and Technology at University of Parma (Italy), after 8-month research internship at the Faculty of Pharmacy, University of South Paris XI (France). From 2002 to 2004 she was granted of a PhD scholarship from University of Parma, allowing her being appointed for 18 months at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (Cambridge, MA, USA) in prof. Robert Langer’s group, where she worked on drug delivery systems for prolonged local anesthesia. She got her PhD degree in “Biopharmaceutics and Pharmacokinetics” from the University of Parma in 2005. Since April 2016 she is permanently appointed as Associate Professor by the Dept. of Life Sciences and Biotechnology (Degree in Pharmacy), University of Ferrara (Italy). She teaches “Pharmaceutical Technology” for the undergraduate Pharmacy program. Her research mainly focuses on transmucosal (nasal, buccal), respiratory and oral drug delivery. In 2008-10 she participated in a project funded by CARISBO Foundation on nose-to-brain delivery of antivirals in veterinary viral encephalitis.
