Megan Green Fossil Springs is the largest spring system discharging along the western Mogollon Rim in central Arizona and is a rare and important resource to the region. The purpose of this study was to gain a better understanding of the source of groundwater discharging at Fossil Springs. This was accomplished by (1) constructing a 3-D digital hydrogeologic framework model from available data to depict the subsurface geology of the western Mogollon Rim region and (2) by compiling and interpreting regional structural and geophysical data for Arizona’s central Transition Zone. EarthVision, a 3-D GIS modeling software, was used to construct the framework model. Two end-member models were created; the first was a simple interpolation of the data and the second was a result of geologic interpretations. The second model shows a monocline trending along the Diamond Rim fault. Both models show Fossil Springs discharging at the intersection of the Diamond Rim fault and Fossil Springs fault, at the contact between the Redwall Limestone and Naco Formation. The second objective of this study was a compilation of regional data for Arizona’s central Transition Zone.

The Proposed Action is intended to improve the recovery status of federally listed fish and amphibians (Gila chub, Gila topminnow, Chiricahua leopard frog, and Sonora tiger salamander) and maintain a healthy native fishery in Redrock Canyon consistent with the CNF Plan and ongoing Endangered Species Act (ESA), Section 7(a)(2), consultation between Reclamation and the FWS. BACKGROUND The Proposed Action is part of a larger program being implemented by Reclamation to construct a series of fish barriers within the Gila River Basin to prevent the invasion of nonnative fishes into high-priority streams occupied by imperiled native fishes. This program is mandated by a FWS biological opinion on impacts of Central Arizona Project (CAP) water transfers to the Gila River Basin (FWS 2008a).

    INCIDENT MANAGEMENT SITUATION REPORT SATURDAY, AUGUST 19, 2000 - 0700 MDT NATIONAL PREPAREDNESS LEVEL V CURRENT SITUATION: Eleven new large fires were reported, including six in the Eastern Great Basin Area and three in the Northern Rockies Area. Containment was reached on 11 large fires in the Southern, Eastern Great Basin and Rocky Mountain Areas. Initial attack activity was moderate in most areas, with precipitation received on some of the large fires. High winds are forecast today for Idaho and Montana, severely challenging firelines in those states. Firefighters from Canada, Australia, New Zealand and Mexico are participating in the fire suppression efforts. Two more military battalions have been ordered. An Army battalion will fill one order from Fort Campbell, Kentucky and the other order will be filled by a Marine battalion from Camp LeJeune, North Carolina. Very high to extreme fire indices have been reported in North Dakota, Texas, and all the western states except New Mexico. NORTHERN ROCKIES AREA LARGE FIRES: An Area Command Team (Edrington) is assigned to manage the large fires in the Hamilton area. An Area Command Team (Mann) is assigned to manage the large fires in southwest Montana. An Area Command Team (Meuchel) is assigned to manage the large fires in central Montana. A Type I Incident Management Team (Wands) is assigned to manage the large fires in northwest Montana. Priorities are being established by the Northern Rockies Multi- Agency Coordinating Group based on information submitted via Wildfire Situation Analysis reports and Incident Status Summary (ICS-209) forms. The goal of the hydrologic study and modeling effort was to develop a quantitative tool to test various groundwater management scenarios. The predevelopment hydrologic system (circa 1900) of the Salt River Valley is analyzed. Various components of groundwater inflow and outflov,/ are identified. A predevelopment groundviater budget is presented. The total inflows and outflows were in approximate balance and equaled approximately 139J~OO acre-feet per year. The modern hydrologic system (1978-198:-1) is analyzed. The vari.ous components of groundv,:rner inflow and outflov<' are identified. Detailed descriptions of the methodologies used to analyze the components of flow are provided. A groundwater budget for the period 19/X-1 Y88 is presented. The total inflows were approximately 13.5 million acre-feet and the total outflow-, were approximately 14.0 million acre-feet The estimated decrease in the volume of groundwater in storage \\'US 0.5 rnillion acre-feet Various recommendations are provided to improve future data collection and analysis efforts.
