Sedimentology and Genesis of the Cenozoic Sediments of Northwestern Himalayas (India) By R. S. CnxuDrmi, Chandigarh *) With 4 figures Zusammenfassung Herkunft und Sedimentationsraum der im Nordwestabschnitt des Himalaya anstehen- den kiinozoischen Sedimente werden ausffihrlich dargestellt. Abstract The paper discusses at length the provenance and the environments of sedimentation of the Cenozoic sediments exposed in the northwestern sector of the Himalayas. The results are based on detailed sedimentological (including mineralogical, petrographical and petrochemical) investigations of more than 8,000 representative samples. It is concluded that the detritus of the Cenozoic formations was derived mainly from metamorphosed rocks exposed in the adjacent Himalayan regions. A comparatively smaller proportion of the sediments was contributed by acid plutonic, volcanic and sedimentary rocks.

  • Social Screening & Me Framework
Himachal Pradesh State Road Project Feasibility Report Social Screening & ME Framework CHAPTER 11 – SOCIAL SCREENING & ME FRAMEWORK 11.1 NEED FOR SOCIAL SCREENING The Himachal Pradesh State Road Project primarily envisages improvement and rehabilitation of State Highway, Major District Roads of the state. The improvement works will consist mainly in raising the formation level, upgrading/improvement of road geometrics, widening, road stretches crossing urban areas may also require upgrading to a two-lane cross section, and/or provision for drains, sidewalks and parking where required. In some cases, new alignments (by- passes) and/or re-alignments may also be required. Improvement and rehabilitation work would entail land acquisition, adverse impact on structures, other assets and sources of earning, religious properties, impact on common properties such as bus stops, hand pumps, etc. The Government of India, the World Bank and the Government of Himachal Pradesh recognizes the need for addressing social issues at very beginning stage of any development project for minimizing adverse impacts and maximizing the benefits through equitable distribution. 11.2 CRITERIA FOR SOCIAL SCREENING Social screening of roads has been undertaken keeping in view the following parameters: (a) presence of number of residential, commercial and residential cum commercial properties within the direct impact zone (b) Existence of religious properties in project impact zone (c) likely Impact on public services (d) likely impact on public utilities (e) average land holding size (f) percentage of SC population (g) percentage of ST population. Under each parameter, relevant indicators have been identified for the screening purpose to arrive at a more meaningful screening result that would help in rational planning and selection of road.

  • Palaeogene Palynostratigraphy of Simla Hills
The Palaeobofanist, 28·29: 389-401, 1981. PALAEOGENE PALYNOSTRATIGRAPHY OF SIMLA HILLS H. P. SINGH Birbal Sahni Institute of Palaeobotany, 53, University Road, Lucknow-226007, India ABSTRACT The Palaeogene succession of Simla Hills consists of Subathu, Dagshai and Kasauli formations in ascending order of stratigraphy. The palynostratigraphical information developed from the marine sequence of Subathu sediments throws light on the dating potential of the assemblages and also on the distributional pattern of various palyno• morphs. Dependable palynological parameters in effecting correlation of various sections of the formation have been discussed. Reflections on the palynological spectra across the Subathu-Dagshai boundary and in the Kasauli Formation have been made. ISSN: 2319-8753 International Journal of Innovative Research in Science, Engineering and Technology (An ISO 3297: 2007 Certified Organization) Vol. 2, Issue 11, November 2013 Changing Geography of Himachal Pradesh Jagdish Chand1 Assistant Professor, Dept. of Geography, Govt. PG College, Nahan, HP, India1 Abstract: Administrative geography of Himachal Pradesh has been a saga of several territorial surgeries and shuffling. This hill state has a colonial past and since its formation on April 15th, 1948 it has undergone a number of administrative readjustments and alterations. This process has been of merger of new areas and realignment of internal boundaries. This resulted into gradual increase in the geographical area of the state along with changing territorial expressions. The entire course of administrative realignment was not an arbitrary or spontaneous process but it was interplay of various cultural, politico-historical and geographical factors. In the present study, administrative history of Himachal Pradesh since 1872 to 2001 has been examined from a geographical perspective using administrative maps of different time periods prepared by Census of India. This study is primarily focused on changing nature of administrative boundaries in Himachal Pradesh. Keywords: Administrative, Hill, Politico-historical, Himachal Pradesh. I. INTRODUCTION The evidences of human occupancies in the Himalayan region can be traced back to two million years ago. As the time passed, primitive human groups organized themselves into tribal republics, which were called janapadas in Sanskrit literature. These were both a state and a cultural unit. There is a reference in the Mahabharata about four famous janapadas existing at that time in the Himalayas namely Audambara, Trigarta, Kuluta and Kunindas (Singh, 1997) [7].

Weaving Traditions along the "Wool Road" in India bySuzetteR.. Copley Patterson Introduction Although the "Silk Road"' is by far the most famous network of trade routes connecting China, Central Asia, and India, there are other significant, ancient trade routes between these regions of which many may not be aware. One such trade route, known informally as the "wool road", connected the plains of the Punjab in India to Tibet, Central Asia and China1. This route, and several others, passed through the Kullu and Kinnaur regions of the northern Indian state known as Himachal Pradesh. The "wool road", which was really merely a donkey trail, was the traditional main trade route in the region, and was so important that it was later widened to motorable width to boost trade in the region and came to be known as the Hindus tan-Tibet road".
