ARMY PUBLIC SCHOOL, DAGSHAI ACHIEVEMENTS (2019-2020)

1. Top Boarding Schools of Ranking. APS Dagshai ranked in the Top schools of India Ranking 2018 in the 11th School Leadership Summit 2018 held on 12 Apr 2019 at to felicitate all the India’s Top School winners. Dr S K Mishra Principal attended the Felicitation ceremony.

2. Education World Award. The school has been awarded with a memento and Certificate for standing 3rd in co-educational Boarding Schools in by Education World on 28 Sep 2019 at the Leela Ambience Gurgaon Hotel & Residences Gurgaon, Haryana.

3. India’s School Merit Award-2019. Army Public School Dagshai is ranked No. 10 in India, No. 2 in Himachal Pradesh and Ranked No. 1 in Dagshai in the category – India’s Top 20 boarding schools’ in a survey conducted by Education Today Co. Bengaluru. Dr S K Mishra, Principal attended the award ceremony on 14 Dec 2019 at the Chancery Pavilion Bangalore.

4. Brainfeed School Excellence Awards 2019-20. Brainfeed, a monthly educational initiative launched in April 2013, has been catering to the needs of K-12 educators and students. After the success of the first magazine, Brainfeed Group began publishing four additional age-specific magazine – Juniors, Primary-I, Primary-II and High – with a view to share knowledge with all stakeholders including pupil, educators, parents and school managements. With a view to encourage educators and school managements to excel in their academics practices, Brainfeed has been organizing seminars, conferences, workshops and honouring them with awards like Acharya Devo Bhava and School Excellence Awards. Brainfeed provides nomination forms to schools desiring to take part in the ‘School Excellence Awards’. Scrutiny of the applications is done in two phases, i.e. market survey & inputs from prominent educators, to assess the overall performance of individual schools. APS Dagshai has been awarded with a Certificate and memento for being in Top 500 Schools of India, achieving excellence in quality School education towards the development of the society among top Himachal Pradesh Schools.

5. Trip To NASA. 12 students of Army Public School Dagshai accompanied by Mr Deepak Saraswat, PGT Computers went on a 10 day educational trip to the United States of America on 14 Nov 2019. In the course of their ten days visit, they visited New York, Orlando and Washington DC. The students visited various famous and historical monuments during their visit.

6. Board Results – Class - X & XII (2018-19). CBSE Board results of classes XII and X declared on 02 May and 06 May 2019 respectively are enumerated below: -

7. Board Result of Classes-XII and X (2019-20). In class XII, result is 98.41% as against 88.78% of CBSE affiliated schools. Total 63 students appeared for AISSCE 2020 in which 04 (6.34%of total strength) students scored more than 95%, 14 (22.2%) students scored more than 90% and 27 (42.8%) students scored more than 80%. School Annual performance index is 306.35 which is all time best in the history of APS Dagshai result. In class-X, total 68 students appeared, of which all are pass, 05 students (7.35% of total strength ) scored more than 95%, 12 (17.64%) scored more than 90% and 34 (50%) students scored more than 80% API of Class X is 305.9 as against 252.9 of last year. Class-X School API is first in Western Command.

8. Vidyarthi Vigyan Manthan (VVM) Online Exam. Under the guidelines of CBSE, a national talent search online examination named Vidyarthi Vigyan Manthan was started in 2016. Since its inception, the students of Army Public School, Dagshai have been participating in this examination. The aim of VVM has been to provide a platform for inculcating and generating interest in pure science & mentoring students to take up careers based on science. Every year students are chosen for the state level based on their ability & scientific temperament. Vidyarthi Vigyan Manthan (VVM) online exam was conducted in the school Computer Lab on 24 Nov 2019. 19 students from classes VI to IX participated in the exam.

9. VVM State Level Result. Vidyarthi Vigyan Manthan (VVM) is an initiative of Vijnana Bharati (VIBHA), in collaboration with Vigyan Prasar, an autonomous organization under the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India and National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT), an institution under the Ministry of Human Resources and Development. VVM is a National program for educating and popularizing science among school students of VI to XI standards. VVM aims to identify the bright minds among the student community, who are keen on subjects related to science. 41 students of our school participated in School Level VVM exam out of which 15 students qualified for state level examination. State level VVM exam was held online on 28 June 2020. 12 students of our school participated in this exam and three students were selected for National level examination.

(a) SRIJAN DEBNATH S/o Nb Sub Swapan Debnath - Scored first position in Class VI category. He will be awarded with cash prize of Rs 5000/- , certificate and memento.

(b) PRAVEEN KUMAR S/o Nk Raj Kumar Singh - Scored Second position in Class VIII category. He will be awarded with cash prize of Rs 3000/- , Certificate and memento.

(c) SHIVAM KUMAR JHA S/o Hav Sujit Kumar - Scored First position in Class –X category. He will be awarded with cash prize of Rs 5000/- , certificate and memento.

10. Silverzone English Olympiad – Level 2. The Silverzone English Olympiad (level 2) was held at APS Dagshai on 06 Feb 2019. A total of 15 students qualified for level 2 after clearing the level-1. Results – 02 Gold medals & Pierre cardin pens, 05 silver medals & Pierre cardin pens and 01 & Pierre cardin pen.

11. Silver Zone Olympiads. Silver Zone Foundation is a veteran of International education Olympiads with more than a decade of experience, excellence and popularity. Silver Zone Foundation is a registered trust (Registration No. 1533) an educational organization with headquarters at New Delhi, to promote learning beyond school curriculum among the students (Class-1 to XII), in an innovative way: there by to realize their potential and develop their skills for a bright and enterprising future. Silver Zone International Olympiad are conducted in ten different subjects i.e. Computer Science, Mathematics, Science, Social Science, English, French, Hindi Talent hunt, General Knowledge and international reasoning and aptitude Olympiads. These Olympiads are conducted at three levels:

(a) Level-I – School Level (b) Level-II – State Level (c) Level-III – International Level

12. Level-I of Silver Zone Olympiads for English, GK, Mathematics, Science and Social Studies were conducted in the school on 06, 08, 13, 19 and 21 Nov 2019. A large number of students participated in these Olympiads.

13. Silverzone Olympiads. Silverzone Foundation is a veteran of International education Olympiads with more than a decade of experience, excellence and popularity. Silverzone Foundation is a registered trust, an educational organization with its headquarters at New Delhi, to promote learning beyond school curriculum among students in an innovative way thereby to realize their potential and develop their skills for a bright and enterprising future. Silverzone International Olympiads are conducted in various subjects ie. Computer Science, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, English, Hindi, General Knowledge and international reasoning and aptitude. These Olympiads are conducted at three levels. APS Dagshai has conducted the following Olympiads: -

(a) International Olympiad of Science. An International Olympiad of Science (Level-1) was held at Army Public School, Dagshai on 19 Nov 2019. 165 students from classes V- XII participated in this Olympiad. This Olympiad was presented by Silver Zone Foundation and organized by Science Olympiad Foundation. Students of APS Dagshai won the following medals:

(i) Gold medals - 06 (ii) Silver medals - 06 (iii) Bronze medals - 06

(b) Olympiad of Science (Level – 2) exam was conducted on 13 Feb 2020 in which 02 students participated.

(c) International Olympiad of English Language. An International Olympiad of English was held at Army Public School, Dagshai on 06 Nov 2019. 107 students from classes V- XII participated in this Olympiad. This Olympiad was presented by Silver Zone Foundation and organized by English Olympiad Foundation. Students of APS Dagshai won the following medals:

(i) Gold medals - 08 (ii) Silver medals - 09 (iii) Bronze medals - 08

(d) Olympiad of English (Level – 2) exam was conducted on 12 Feb 2020 in which 10 students participated.

(e) International Olympiad of Mathematics. An International Olympiad of Mathematics was held at Army Public School, Dagshai on 13 Nov 2019. 113 students from classes V- XII participated in this Olympiad. This Olympiad was presented by Silver Zone Foundation and organized by Maths Olympiad Foundation. Five student of APS Dagshai won Gold medals.

(f) International Olympiad of Social Studies. An International Olympiad of Social Studies was held at Army Public School, Dagshai on 21 Nov 2019. 74 students from classes V- X participated in this Olympiad. This Olympiad was presented by Silver Zone Foundation and organized by Social Studies Olympiad Foundation. One student of APS Dagshai won Special Achievement Certificate, Gold medal and Elegant pen. Three students won Special Achievement Certificate and Gold Medals. One student won Silver medal and Special Achievement certificate.

(g) Smart Kid GK Olympiad. Smart Kid GK Olympiad was held at Army Public School, Dagshai on 08 Nov 2019. 108 students from classes V- X participated in this Olympiad. This Olympiad was presented by Silver Zone Foundation and organized by Smart Kid GK Olympiad Foundation. All the students got participation certificates.

14. Green Olympiad- 2019-20. The Green Olympiad Exam organized by TERI (The energy and Resources Institute) Delhi was conducted on 16 Oct 2019 at APS Dagshai, in which 184 students from Class-V to X participated. The objective of conducting the exam was to build awareness about the environment amongst the students. The exam has three different levels i.e. Level-I for V class students, Level-II for VI to VIII class students and Level- III for Class IX & X students. Five students of classes-V, VIII & X got certificates of merit by securing above 65% marks. Rest of the students were awarded with participation certificates.

15. CO-CURRICULAR ACTIVITES

(a) Inter School Mohinder Memorial Bilingual Turn Coat Debate-2019. 03 Students of APS Dagshai participated in Inter School Mohinder Memorial Bilingual Turn Coat Debate from 29-31 Aug 2019. APS Dagshai won the debate.

(b) HQ 2 Corps Inter APSs Hindi Debate Competition. 03 students of APS Dagshai participated in HQ 2 Corps Inter Army Public Schools Hindi Debate Competition held at Army Public School Sangrur on 06 Sep 2019.

(c) World Robotics Olympiad (National Level). 07 students of APS Dagshai participated in World Robotics Olympiad (National Level) conducted by CBSE held at Kunskapsskolan International School, Sector -70 Gurgaon on 07-08 Sep 2019.

(d) Inter School Business Quiz 2019. 03 Students of APS Dagshai participated in Kirloskar Inter School Business Quiz 2019 at The Lawrence School Sanawar on 09 Sep 2019.

(e) Sanawar Literary Festival (Hindi Kavita Vaachan Pratiyogita – 2019). APS Dagshai participated in Sanawar Literary Festival (Hindi Kavita Vaachan Pratiyogita – 2019 held at Lawrence School Sanawar on 14 Sep 2019. Aditi Sharma of APS Dagshai got 1st consolation prize. Overall position of APS Dagshai was 2nd. (f) HQ 2 Corps Inter Army Public Schools Quiz Competition. APS Dagshai participated in HQ 2 Corps Inter Army Public Schools Quiz competition held at APS Patiala on 20 Sep 2019.

(f) Manthan-2019. 09 students of APS Dagshai participated in ‘Manthan-2019’ the 20th Annual Inter School Competition on Environment and Population held at St Edward’s School on 29 Sep 2019. 42 schools from all over Himachal Pradesh took part in various competitions namely, painting, English and Hindi Declamations and slogan writing in various categories. In painting competition, Nikhil Kumar s/o Nk Rakesh Kumar Class-XII won the first position in Senior category and Raja Rizwan S/o Sh Gowhar Nabi, Class-VIII won the second position in Junior category.

(g) HQ 2 Corps Inter Army Public Schools English Debate. HQ 2 Corps Inter Army Public Schools English Debate was conducted at APS Dagshai on 3rd Oct 2019. 07 debating school teams that come under HQ 2 Corps, excluding the host school, participated in this debate. The topic for debate was ‘Technology has pushed the most evolved of living species towards the generation of brain and body’. The chief guest on this occasion was Professor J M Julka, an eminent scientist and director, Planning and Professor of Eminence Shoolini University of Biotechnology and Management Sciences , Ms Renu Sood, Academic Coordinator, DAV Public School, New Shimla, Ms Sakshi Sood story teller and Professor K K Raina, an eminent scientist and Head of Department, Dr YS Parmar University of Horticulture and Forestry Solan. APS Patiala won the debate.

(h) LPS Business Conclave-2019. APS Dagshai team participated in Business conclave for the first time which had various competitions to enhance the business acumen of the students at Learning Paths School Mohali, from 11th to 12th October. 18 schools from the region participated in the conclave. The competitions were:

(a) Business Plan Competition, Let’s start up. (b) Titan Challenge (c) Business Quiz (d) Advertisement Campaign (e) Corporate Roadies

It was unique opportunity to showcase the talent in commerce and enhance the skills. Children learned a lot in the given field. Deepali Singh Class XI Hum and Nikhil Kumar class XII Com won second prize in Advertisement campaign designing. The quiz team qualified the preliminary round and secured 4th position in the stage round.

(j) 4th All India Major Udai Singh Memorial Quiz. The Fourth edition of Late major Udai Singh Memorial Inter School quiz was held in the school auditorium on 18 Oct 2019. A total of 11 teams from reputed schools in Himachal and outside state participated in the screening test. The six teams that qualified the written test were selected for the main quiz. The teams were Army Public School, Ambala, DAV, New Shimla, DAV Darlaghat, St Edward’s school Shimla, Learning Pathways School, Mohali and Army Public School, Dagshai. All the teams witnessed a series of questions in rounds like general awareness, connect the pictures, Heritage, Sports, Audio, Video, Buzzer and Rapid Fire. The winners of the quiz was the team of APS Dagshai while the Team from Army Public School, Ambala and St Edwards School Shimla bagged the second and third position respectively. The Chief Guest for the Quiz was Dr PK Khosla, Vice Chancellor, Shoolini University and Guest of Honour was Col K KK Singh (Retd) father of Late Maj Udai Singh.

(k) 05 students of APS Dagshai participated in The Lawrence School, Sanawar Lit Fest – 2019 held at The Lawrence School Sanawar on 01 & 02 Nov 2019. Asmi Dev D/o Mr Ashish of Class-XI won the Best Speaker Award in the Preliminary Award out of 16 schools. Sanyukta Singh D/o Ex Nk Rakesh Kumar Singh of Class-XI won 3rd Prize in Poetry writing.

(l) 02 students Miss Mannat Verma D/o Sh Tarsem Verma, Class-IX and Master Lumto Dubi S/o Col Talum Dubi, Class-X of the school participated in Master26 (an annual Inter School English Vocabulary Contest) at The Mann School Holambi, Delhi held on 08 & 09 Nov 2019. They cleared first three rounds of the contest and were felicitated with the participation certificates. Nearly 26 schools from all over India participated in the contest.

16. Eco Club. It was a great moment for the Principal, Staff and Students of Army Public School, Dagshai when the students of the Eco Club won a Gold Medal, A++ Grade and a cash incentive of Rs 800/-. During the academic session 2019-20, the school Eco Club organized various activities namely, water harvesting, vermi composting and various other competitions: cleanliness drive, essay writing and slogan writing where the students of the school actively participated. On the basis of the performance of these students, the Deputy Director of the Elementary Education, Solan (HP) awarded a Gold Medal, A++ Grade and a cash incentive of Rs 800/ to the Eco Club. Owing to the efforts of Army Public School, Dagshai and other schools of , the Solan District has won this award again and Solan district will be felicitated by the Honorable Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh. The School Principal Dr SK Mishra congratulated the students and the teachers concerned for their hard work and hoped that they would continue to excel in various activities in future too.

17. SPORTS

(a) IPSC Badminton Tournament. All India IPSC Badminton Tournament was organized by Genesis School Noida from 10 Jul to 12 Jul 2019. Total 17 school of India participated in the tournament. Our girl’s team participated in U-17 category. APS Dagshai got 3rd position with bronze medal (U-17) in the tournament. Yashika Sharma of APS Dagshai has been selected to participate in State Games Federation of India (SGFI).

(b) IPSC Boxing Championship. 05 students (Boxing team) of APS Dagshai participated in the Indian Public School Conference (IPSC) Boxing Championship held at Military School Dholpur, Rajasthan from 18 Sep to 20 Sep 2019. 11 teams from the IPSC schools took part in this championship. The Dagshai boxers put up an excellent performance. The team won one silver and one bronze medal as under:

(i) Master Dhruv Millu S/o Lt Col Kushal Dev Singh, Class-XII-Sc won Silver medal (U-19 category).

(ii) Master Nishan Loffa S/o Mr Tani Loffa, Class-XI-Sc won Bronze medal (U-17 category).

(iii) The following students got participation certificates

(aa) Master Harish Thakur S/o Hav Chaman Lal, Class-XII-Sc (ab) Master Ankit Sharma S/o Hav Vikrant Sharma, Class-VIII (ac) Master Sunny Sangwan S/o Sep Shakti Singh, Class-VIII

(c) HQ 2 Corps Inter APSs Football Tournament. APS Dagshai Football team participated in HQ 2 Corps Inter Army Public Schools Football Tournament held at Army Public School, Patiala from 01 Aug to 03 Aug 2019.

(d) HQ 2 Corps Inter APSs Badminton Tournament. APS Dagshai Badminton Team participated in HQ 2 Corps Inter Army Public Schools Badminton Tournament held at Army Public School Clement Town from 05 Aug to 06 Aug 2019. APS Dagshai school team (Girls) were the Runner up in the singles category and winners in the Doubles Category. School team won the overall runners up trophy by winning two Gold Medals and one silver medal.

(e) HQ 2 Corps Inter APSs Basketball (Boys & Girls) Tournament was conducted by APS Dagshai from 18 Aug to 20 Aug 2019. A total of eight schools of HQ 2 Corps including APS Dagshai participated in the tournament. The tournament was organized on knock out basis because of weather condition. The final match (girls) was played between APS Dagshai and APS Clement Town where APS Clement Town won the tournament. The final match (boys) was played between APS Dagshai and APS Ambala where APS Ambala won the tournament. Honorable Patron of the school Maj Gen K Shankar was the Chief Guest and gave away prizes in presence of the Chairman Brig Vikram Sharma and Dir (AWES) Western Command, Col B P Singh (Retd).

(f) State Basketball Tournament for juniors. 11 Boys of basketball team participated in 41st State Basketball Tournament for juniors held at Kangra Basketball Association Kangra from 21 Sep to 23 Sep 2019.

(g) Fitness Week Celebration (Fit India Movement). As per the CBSE guidelines, APS Dagshai celebrated the fitness week under ‘Fit India Movement’ from 18 Nov to 23 Nov 2019. The following activities were conducted with the students to promote & inculcate fitness among them: -

(i) Free hand exercises. (ii) Yoga (iii) Tug of War competition (Indigenous sports) (iv) Lecture on fitness & wellness, diet & nutrition. Video & photographs of the same have been taken and will be uploaded on school website page ‘Fit India Movement’. (v) Essay Writing & Poetry writing (English & Hindi)

(h) APS Dagshai is awarded with a certificate of ‘Fit India Movement’ by Govt of India, Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports.

NCC TRAINING CAMP

18. 42 Cadets (22 boys and 20 girls) of APS Dagshai attended a 10 days Annual Training Camp in Chitkara Universtiy, Barotiwala with Mr Dheeraj Gupta, TGT Hindi and ANO from 04 Jun to 13 Jun 2019.

19. NCC Day. NCC Day was celebrated in Army Public School, Dagshai on 25 Nov 2019. 70 NCC cadets took part in the celebration and different activities were organized to mark the event. The celebration began with the speech on NCC followed by a play on Swachh Bharat. Students also participated in Poster making and banner making. Tree plantation was carried out. All the activities were planned under the guidance of Mr Dheeraj Gupta, ANO and TGT Hindi of Army Public School, Dagshai. After the celebration culminated, the cadets enjoyed snacks in the school cafeteria.

20. All India Samundra Talent Search Examination. One student of APS Dagshai, Miss Muskan Thapa of Class-XII secured 43th place in All India Samundra Talent Search Examination conducted by SIMS (Samundra Institute of Maritime Studies) Lonavala on 16 Nov 2019. She was felicitated by Samundra Institute Chandigarh on 18 Feb 2020 at APS Dagshai. (Cash prize of Rs 2000). Two students – Ankit and Abhishek Sheoran were also felicitated by them for securing 150th and 188th place respectively.

21. Green School Programme 2019-20. GSP is a programme under CSE (Centre for Science and Environment) which is a non-governmental organization. This programme is directed to sensitize the students towards the importance of learning to live sustainably and help the school to become environmental managers by deploying solutions to reduce wastage of precious resources. In the year 2019-20, Army Public School, Dagshai was ranked 181 in Pan- India and awarded with a yellow certificate in which the energy consumption is between 50 – 69.9% from all green sources like solar water heaters. Last year the school was awarded with orange certificate in which it was below 50% and the ranking was 658.

SILVER JUBILEE CELEBRATION 1994 BATCH

22. Alumni of 1994 batch of APS Dagshai celebrated their Silver Jubilee on 19 Apr & 20 Apr 2019 at APS Dagshai. Twenty seven students of this batch accompanied by Mr Suresh Mathur, the founder Principal of the school alongwith Mrs R Mathur, the founder staff members Mr & Mrs Dimri, Mrs Jagpal, Mrs Katoch, Mrs Malhotra, Ms Mahajan and Abhay Mathur, the first student of the school. Mrs S Roy, an old teacher and mother of Late Capt Sumit Roy, VrC, and an old student of the same batch was a special guest. Capt Sumit Roy made a supreme sacrifice for the sake of his country when he fell while fighting the enemies in the Kargil War.

23. Principal, Dr S K Mishra welcomed the guest and informed about the progress the school had made and the projects the school had undertaken and the future plans. A special assembly was organised in honour of these old students. In the assembly Mr Mathur and the Batch of 1994 addressed the school students and staff. Right after the special assembly, there was an unveiling of the plaque in the school library by Mrs Roy where she spoke about her son and how difficult it was for her to hear sad and untimely demise of her son. Col R Katoch, SM narrated the brave story of Late Captain Sumit Roy and how bravely he uprooted the enemies, though in the process he lost his life. In the memory of late Captain Sumit Roy, the school library was renamed after him: Captain Sumit Roy Library.

24. The Batch of 1994 donated books worth Rs 22,000 to the school library. The alumni had a photography session and a round of Academic Block. They also gave a financial help of Rs 150,000/- for the current academic session to a needy child.

25. Online Classes. Online classes for all the students have been started wef 01 Apr 2020. The Corona virus pandemic and the ensuing lockdown has forced schools and colleges across India to temporarily shut and this unprecedented move had created a big gap in the education system despite the central and state government doing their best to provide support for e-learning and online education

(a) Army Public School, Dagshai started to provide online classes to help students continue their education from the comfort of their homes April 1, 2020 onwards.

(b) Teachers created WhatsApp groups and Google classrooms and have been sending notes of lessons with worksheets along with videos made for every lesson.

(c) Teachers also posted videos made by them on various subjects through various platforms like You Tube channels. Zoom app was used initially to take live online classes but after the governments ban on the app videos are being uploaded through you tube and whatsApp.

(d) NCERT and Govt of India portals like SWAYAM, NROER (National Repository of Open Educational Resources), DIKSHA have also been used to send learning resources and e-content to children. Comprehensive collaboration of all the resources is being done to make the online learning fruitful for the students.

(e) Online tests are also being conducted regularly using the Google forms and classroom app.
